Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

I know a metallic silhouette shooter who shot a 39# bird on a farm several years ago. It was a wild turkey that had been conditioned to being around the farm and people.

He was shooting cans with a .22 and saw the bird walking down the trail to dinner time with the chickens. He climed up a tree and drilled it in the back. Eventhough it was out of season, and with an illegal firearm for turkeys; he doesn't understand why the state won't recognize it as the state record.

There is a record Rio Grande from OR that was shot by a 15yo hunter. 37#, and couldn't fly, had malformed feet from the weight and could hardly walk. It was fed twice a day for a few years. The farmer told a father & son to go out behind the barn and shoot the turkey. So they did. The dad pressured the NWTF RD to acknowledge it because the turkey moved onto the farm on its own volition which meant it was wild.

I've patterened toms before, but the "put & take" story like the OR Rio, seem to really push definition wild to an extreme. It is what it is.

Like shooting a deer in a bean field from your poarch. Yeah you shot it, but is it really hunting?

i never said i hunted it. never said i was proud of shooting a 40 pound "wild" turkey. i was doing the lady a favor because she was tired of feeding it. she had no use for the bird and wanted it taken care of. so i took care of it. i thought it would be a funny story that you "avid" turkey hunters would get a kick out of. didnt realize turkey hunting made people that uptight.
