Calling Down Hill
Recently I herd a turkey gobble from his roost up hill from where I was owl calling. I ran up a ravine trying to get at the same level or above him. Once I was set up The Gobbler seemed to go up hill from me and started to gobble from behind me. This is mountainious terrain and were he was gobbling from, their was no way that I would be able to get around him and above him to set up. Their was thickets above him. He hung around for about 45 minutes before moving on. The question; is it possible to call a gobbler in from a down hill position, or was I just wasting my time. Thanks for any advice.

ive read a number of times its easier to call uphill....probally something to do with the way they prefer to travel or something....but ive also heard people talk about how their bird ran down the hill to them.....so im sure its possible...just i heard its easier to call them up the hill

I' ve heard all that about you can' t call down hill. But in the five years I' ve hunted turkeys I' ve seen just as many come down as up. Especially in mountainous areas I think that notion goes out the window. I read a peice from Ronnie Strickland," The only absolute about turkey hunting is there are no absolutes" So my freind I' d work him up, down and side ways if he' s gonna come, he' s gonna come.

Down Hill , No problem , they' ll come down aswell as up. The thing to keep in mind is that Turkeys can see better coming down/above ya so movement is more of an issue...BT
