10 gauge for turkey???
I know it is not needed but I bought a Browning 10 gauge BPS that a friend had set up for turkey. It is just like new still in a box, he said it was only shot 10 times. It is a 96 model and I gave him 200. I asked around first and people told me to jump on that. Enough about the deal, is there anyone out there who uses a 10 gauge to hunt turkey? I have patterned it and I am going to try it this year.

RE: 10 gauge for turkey???
I sometimes use my Remington SP10,but have opted for the lighter weight of the 12.I have taken birds with it,But i dont think it gives you much of a advantage, over a 3 1/2" mag 12 guage. The only problem with them that i can see,is some people believing that they can take 55-60 yard shot's,just because their using a 10.If you dont mind the extra weight, and shoot only within the gun's capabilities,i dont think you'll have a problem.Good Luck!

Someone on this forum has a Remington SP-10 all tricked out, meaning a lengthened forcing cone, ported barrel, shortened barrel and a custom choke tube. While I only have a 3" gun myself, I'd surely like to try out that bad boy just to see what kind of patterns it shoots!!! One thing about that BPS of yours, the extra weight of that gun would tame the recoil for you very nicely!!!

I HAVE AN SP-10 TRICKED OUT AND I LOVE IT. I HAVE SHOT THE BPS AND I CAN TELL YOU THIS, IT HAS ALOT MORE RECOIL THAN MY AUTOMATIC HAS. IT IS HEAVIER TO CARRY BUT I THINK ITS A BIG PLUS. MOST 12 GUAGES I HAVE SEEN SHOOT 3 IN SHELLS MUCH BETTER THAN 3& 1/2'S . I DONT KNOW WHY BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE THE CASE OR SO THAT IVE SEEN. I THINK YOULL BE JUST FINE WITH IT. JUST PATTERN IT AND KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO.

Poult I like your taste man!I've shot an Ithica Mag 10 too, for the last 18 years and love it!I load my own reloads for it and it puts the hurt on ole tom turkey.Allen I have shot your BPS 10 and it is a very nice gun.The gun does have some recoil, but is a little heavy and absorbs some of the shock. But it wasn't enough for me to give it a bad grade,I'd own it for sure.Be sure and put a sling on it,because they are a little heavy packing it in the woods.Good deal!
