gunnison county, colorado
My wife got offered the use of a cabin south of Gunnison, CO (near Powderhorn?) next year. Would it be worth it to go in May and try and kill a Merriams? She says she is OK with the cooler/wetter weather, but if it's low-odds on spring turkey that late in the season, I would rather take her during a warmer month.

The guy that owns the cabin hunts it heavy in the fall. I got on the CO website and saw that all of 14 turkeys were killed in the county in 2008, so I think I will let it warm up a bit before we go.

Gunnison county Turkeys
Gunnison co. is not known for it's Turkeys, but it's Elk and Deer.
If your going to try and hunt turkeys though... I dont have a topo with me right now but look to any areas where they could roost facing E. or S. with water close ( the water may not even be on a map.) That would be your best bet unless you could pin down the area where they got those 14 birds.
Good luck!
