Default curing wings for King Strut decoy

My buddy just rolled a nice tom, and we want to save the wings/tail for a future king strut decoy.....does anyone have details on how much of the wing is needed and what position it needs to dry in. Thanks

Okay, well how hard can it be? Cut the wing off and then open it and tack it down and let it dry...

I make lots of wingbone calls - drying the wing is easy - spread raw as stated above but make sure the inside of the wing is up facing you.

You can pin to a board in the shape you want. then just add table salt - lots of it on the meaty portions of the upper wing mainly and spray lightly with a House and Garden insecticide. Check monthly and retreat with insecticide - it will dry nicely.

Actually you could take the big meaty portion of the wing off which would get rid of the worst part.

I would try fitting it raw which will make it plyable to the decoy before I drired. That wil tell you how much you can take off but I am betting the big bone and meat portion that would have been connected to the body (breast) can be removed.
Once you have the shape you want pin it with strips of thin wood.

I have wings to which I did nothing and they are fine. Albeit they might stink up your garage for a while!

For pinning I di have a post above pinned how I di fans....wing would be similar.

I use Borax not salt. It will dry your skins, tails, wings, etc. in days not weeks. It also helps on keeping bugs away better than salt. You can find it in with the laundry soaps at the store. 20 mule team borax….try it you will like it.
Definitely a good idea to cut some of the meat off the wings & tails before drying.
