Best Loads for Black Powder Shotgun
I am looking for the most effective load combination for a 12-gauge black powder shotgun for Turkeys.
How much shot (oz), what size, how much powder (Pyrodex, FFG, Triple Seven, etc), others (types of wads, overshot cards, etc), and effective range? |
RE: Best Loads for Black Powder Shotgun
You need to spend some time at the range - I use 100 grains pyrodex - 1/2" over the powder wad - a BP tuff shot cup - 1 7/8 ounce of #4 copper plated lead shot.
Now this has been the most effective - best patterning load for me. I have a 10 Ga side by side Pedroselli. Do NOT exceed the manufacturers recommended powder load. Shot cups (google BP Ballistics they have a huge selection) did help greatly with my patterns.......But taking someone elses load is NOT the thing to do - you need to find the load that will pattern the best in your gun as each is different.
