what was your first turkey killer. not your fancy camoflauged thumbhole stock 50 yards shooting gun. but the one you daddy or grandaddy gave ya.

Mine was my grandpa's side by side 12 ga Hercules with no recoil pad. Boy I thought i was something to put 5 shot in a beer can at 30 yards at 10 years old. ha ha good times

An old nameless 16ga single barrel.......still take it out every now and then. Brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.

The same shotgun I still turkey hunt with to this day, nothing fancy, nothing special, but it puts them down. Mossberg 500, when was still known as New Haven. I put a 28" vent rib barrel on it, w/ a mossberg xx-full choke. Loaded up with 3" Nitro's it gets 35 pellets in head & neck alone at 40yds. What more could you ask for!!!

Remington 870 youth 20 gauge that my father bought me. I still have it but generally it only gets used for small game now.

The one I have and use now, Maverick 88 12ga made by Mossberg with a Tru-glo Gobbler Stopper choke.

870 Wingmaster Magnum 12ga

They damn sure don't make them like they used to. I bought that gun when I was 11.... had to cut a hell of a lot of grass to earn the $180 they wanted for it (used). It had a 28" full choke vent rib barrel that my Dad had thin-wall chokes put in (they are actually Invector chokes... it blows people's minds).

I used a straight up full flush fit choke and Remington 'Camo Shell' (OD Green hull with black brass) 2oz #6s. First bird I killed after ten years of trying was at 36 yards. Killed five or six more with it until I bought the turkey rifle in early 2003. I still shoot a lot of ducks, geese, deer and doves with it though.

single shot 20ga with a full choked bore...never shot at a bird with that..but killed me a pile of squirrels with it..

then graduated to a mossberg 500 with a 28" barrel...thing was bigger than me...still have it but i havent got it out of the case in years....just too big and clunky for anything since i graduated again lol..cant remember if i killed any birds with that or not...i think i killed a fall bird with it....

now its an 870 express mag turkey gun with a 21" barrel, undertaker hevishot choke and hevishot...think i killed all my spring birds with that gun...

It was my WestPoint 949 Savage 20 gauge single shot. Then it was my Smith & Wesson model 3000 pump 12.
