I' ve heard this on ever huntin site I' ve been on. well, ya' ll need to come to south Ar, where the turkeys are smart
I had my doghouse pop-up (brushed in to boot) and was set up by a dustin bowl.
about 11:00 here comes a lone hen, she walks right by my dust-bowl decoy, and is more interested in my blind than the decoy or anything else. she didn' t spook, but just putted and soft yelped goin bach and forth in front of then to the side of then finally behind my blind. clearly, she was curious about that weird thing that hadn' t been there before.
I' ve heard turkey hunters say they set their blinds right out in the wide open, and the turks never pay the blind any attention. well, I' ll beleive that when I see it for myself.

Bogobble, I' ve had the same thing happen a
few times over the last several years with my
Double Bull blinds. From my experience, I' ve
never had a gobbler get spooked, only hens.

Most of the time though I set my blind up on
the edge of a open field or pasture, completely
in the open except for a few limbs I cut off to
stick in the ground around the bottom of my
blind-had ' em actually get so close they brush
up against my blind[]. But...as we know, turkeys
will be turkeys[&:]and what works for one...
won' t work on another???

Ever get another chance at the big one you
missed? Had a big one in close myself the
other night get away somehow[:@].

I had a hen this year do kinda the same thing. I had my Double Bull set-up in the open on a flat in the woods, and she stared at it for about 5 minutes, then went back to feeding. The toms I saw paid no attention to it.

I have had turkeys in the South walk right up to them and kill themselves and some see them at 100 yards and run. No absolutes in this game! Are they? Better luck next time!

It has been my experience that turkeys are very curious, even more so than deer. I set up against a tree one time and put some brush across my legs. I immediately callied in a flock of hens and poults (it was the fall season). The 3 hens put the poults under some brush about 15 years from me and proceeded to make a huge circle to my left. The poults came out of the brush to eat and caught my full attention. A few minutes later the rustling of leaves directly behind me scared me to death. Those hens circled me and came up along side of me to check me out. I slowly turned my head and was nose to beak with a Rio hen. She purted a few times, walked right beside my leg and back to the youngsters.

An old timer told me to move very slowly and the turkeys will actually come up to you to check you out.

On other occasions, I' ve seen hens spook at hen decoys from 50 yards.

I was set up in my old homemade blind that had been there since two weeks before season when I called that one up. I think that' s the reason he wadn' t a bit spooked at it.

I hope the gobblers down here do the same as ya' lls when it comes to pop-up' s.
