I've got a Winchester SX3 that I like alot, but there's no option for a thumbhole stock as of right now. My dad picked up a new Benelli Super Nova pump with the pistol grip stock today during a Turkey Season sale at the local shop for like $420, if I was looking for a gun solely for turkey hunting this would be it. He picked up an Indian Creek choke and a decent Redhead red dot sight for it as well, hopefully we'll get it patterned tomorrow.

i HIGHLY recommend the Mossberg 835!! Best turkey gun out there in my opinion. Then top it off with a Primos Jellyhead choke, and you have the BEST turkey killing machine out there!

I am not on this board much (more archery and deer) so maybe I don't see the posts commenting on this gun. I like the TC Encore Turkey Barrel (if I had my druthers I'd get the 26" over the 20", my dad shoots the former, I shoot the latter). I just like the options the Encore gives me in a hunting package. I have the .17 for squirles, my 50cal ML for deer, the 22.250 for predator hunting and the Turkey Barrel for well Turkeys. Am planning on getting a high powered rifle in something like a .243 or 25.06 for upcoming antelope trips. I am able to get all of those barrels for under $300 (except the Turkey, it cost me a little over $300). Sure it is a single shot, but when your good who needs a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th
. ANyways an awsome versatile package for a guy to consider.
PS It can be equipped with thumbhole stock. I recommend limbsaver recoil pads to be installed on this gun if shoting anything over 2 3/4.

the 835 is a good gun but remember when you get thesetight patterns you have to be alittle more steady with your aim.
a buddy of mine bought one and missed the same bird 3 times at 11 yards.

I just bought a Remington 870 with a jellyhead and I love it. Mohunter is right about too tight of a pattern, I've seen pictures on here of 40 yd patterns that look tighter than mine but at 20 yds all 2 ounces of #6 shot are in an 8" circle with mine. Move that up to 11 yds, have your heart rate go up to about 200 beats per minute and add a bobbing target that won't stay still and give you a clear shot at the same time.

Yeah theyre right about those close shots.
A couple turkeys ago before i had my Mossberg, i got real lucky (long story, but am glad to share it) and shot a tom 6 yards away with my trusty single shot NEF w/modified choke.
