what type of area are you hunting consrvation area or private. It really makes a differance what type of area you are hunting. consrvation areas are gernerally harder to hunt and the birds are more skidish. you have to have more patiance in a area that is heavly hunted. Private land is differant you can be more out going in your hunting sratagy.

What ever you do, DON"T make the Putt Putt sound!
I did that the first time I went turkey hunting.
I heard them start making that sound, so I imatated the sound, and instantly they were gone.
Then I find out, it's the danger sound for turkeys.
And Don't wear any thing thats Red, or White or Blue, or black.
It's the colors of a turkey, and can get you shoot.
Be carefull, and Good Luck.

Since most seasons have yet to begin...never call to turkeys before the season. You definitely want to get outside somewhere to practice calling, so you can get afeel for what the calls sound like in the real world, just not somewhere you'll be hunting.

Don't call too much! Most videos you see people are constantly calling. It makes for a very nice video, but its not necessarily the best way to conduct your hunt. If a turkey gobbles to every call you make and keeps coming, great. I find that more often than not, he's gonna hang up and wait for you (the hen) to come to him. If you play hard to get or even quit calling and just scratch leaves, he'll probably come looking for you. Really though, expect to make mistakes and learn from them. No amount of reading will substitute for experience, but reading all you can is a great start. Welcome to the addiction and good luck!

Dont overcall.
Dont be impatient.
Dont move when turkeys are around. AT ALL
Dont get upset if you dont have instant success.
Set up properly for an incoming turkey, you wont have time to move when hes in sight.
Just a few.
