Hay guys I need a little help here.
I have hunted for years for lots of types of game with shotgun, bow, & rifle but I have never hunted turkeys. I want to start hunting turkeys & want to do it right.
What is the best beginner turkey hunting DVD?
Is there a good more advanced DVD?
Do you recommend any other info or DVD I need?
Thanks for the help……

I think you need to hunt. You cannot learn this kinda thing in a book or a movie. You can learn about it... and you can enhance your knowledge certainly. But starting fresh you have got to just drop in and do it. You will either get lucky, or like most of us, fail miserably.
Until you have some in the field experience, I don't think any of the lessons in any book or DVD will really stick, because you won't be able to recognise the situation that you are in with a particular bird. That isn't an insult at all, it is just a simple fact. Turkey hunting successfully has two really big key components (technique and holding still aside here)
1) knowing the land you are hunting and the patterns of the birds intimately and (2) being able to recognise the situation you are in and draw on a pool of knowledge and experience to adapt to and succeed in that situation.

I agree with you 100% that I have to do the field work to get any knowledge of what the birds are doing & how to get them. I’m not a rookie to hunting, Been hunting for 37+ years, Hunted 42 days this year with a smooth bore for over 200 birds. I just have never hunted turkeys (not many birds till now in my area).
What I’m looking for is some” how to” info to help with my learning curve.

Greg, my son and I started turkey hunting for the first time last year and thanks to members of this forum we were both successful in harvesting a couple of nice toms. I did buy a few videos but they were geared more toward the kill shot and not a lot of instruction. However, I did purchase a video that I found pretty helpful and that was Primos, "Mastering The Art". I would encourage you to read thru some of the posts here especially those that are from folks that are asking for advice for beginners. Good luck and if you need something just ask.

There is plenty of good how to call information. And I've written a fair bit of how to shoot/pattern, how to purchase, and even some actual how to hunt information at the top of the page. I can't really speak to the DVDs and all that, because the ones I have seen that have been instructive haven't really hit on a whole lot of actual field situations. You'll get a guy shooting a turkey and talking about himself and how great he is and why you should buy his product. I like the Primos series of videos, because they are the truth... there isn't a lot of BS. But at the same time, while you can learn from them... you have to pay attention for what to learn. They aren't going to come right out and tell you, hey... do this now.... try this here... you have to pick up on some small things. Thats what I was getting at... please don't think I was giving you a riot act... nothing could be further! Welcome to the forums too by the way!

I’ll look over the forum for topics I need help on, bird habits, how to set up, calls, pattering, decoys, basically everything… & come back with good questions..
