My 1st bow-killed gobbler
I killed this gobbler on Thursday. He is my 1st bow kill turkey. He weighed 23.5# with 1" spurs and 9.5" beard. I killed him at 12:30pm.
I had just set my DB up and had been set up for about 15 min. when south of me I heard a faint gobble that over time realized that he was cutting the distance very rapidly. He almost never shut up. I love turkeys like this! I was keeping him on track and he gobbled at about 150 yrds and then about a minute later I heard, kert-doooooooom on the north side of the blind. It was another mature gobbler that was in full strut going to the hen deke.
The south gobbler was still coming and the new north gobbler was coming through a hole in the fence to stand beside his " hen" when I drew and sent a rocket tipped goldtip through his lungs. He flipped up about 10' and came down stone dead.
Meanwhile...the south turkey gobbled at about 100 yrds and so I called and then I saw his white head against his broad fan coming down the ridge. In no time he was standing next to my hen, DBA ' sexy lexy' , and looking at his fallen comrade. Finally, he decided something wasn' t quite right and moved off, but wasn' t spooked. In Iowa, you can only kill 1 turkey a day and 1 turkey per licease.
Anyway, I have shot my last gun gobbler. I recommend this experience to all bowhunter' s. A double bull is not much more expensive than a climbing treestand and man it is Awesome.
Here is his pic.

Hey guy, nice bird, and quite an accomplishment with a bow. Blinds are the best thing that ever came along for bowhunting turkeys and for introducing youngsters to hunting. Congratulations!!

I agree, I got my first with a bow this year, using a DB T-5. They are awesome blinds! I have shot my last bird with a gun. Now I' m looking forward to using my DB this fall for whitetails.
