Default Buckwing Decoys & Shine - A Test

I have been playing around with video cameras that record with a motion sensor. A friend has some turkeys on his land here in PA and we decided to put a hen and jake decoy in front of the camera to see what happens. The hen was a Carry-lite decoy and the jake was a BuckWing decoy. When I saw the BuckWing decoy I had my reservations because of the way it looked. Those that have seen it know what I mean. Well, let me tell you... it didn' t matter one bit. I' ve got video of two gobblers pounding/wing beating/ pecking the BuckWing jake decoy for 12 minutes!!! The decoy is all pecked now around the head and eye. We were thinking that since the head was so red it might have something to do with it. I don' t know but the decoy does work.

Here are some pics from the video.

WOW!!!!!! [][8D] Those are incredible photos!!!! I have a Buckwing Jake & Hen combo set. I' m glad to see gobblers fighting over the buckwing. So many people have complained that they are too shiny.

I took my jake & hen and carefully rubbed them with #000 steel wool down the contours of the feathers. It didn' t dull them or ruin them or anything bad... It just slighly toned down that wicked blinding irridescence shine to them.

Great pics! Looks like the camera caught ' em gobbling at each other in the last one. No doubt celebrating their victory.

I ahve always felt the buckwing hen was to shiny. The steel wool idea is good. The jake I wouldn' t have worried about as much since tom feathers are much " shineir" than hen feathers.
