RE: .17 HMR for turkey
i have a hard time getting them in close and would love it if i was able to hunt with a 17. i hunt to feed my family and that would be an almost gauruntee kill if I couldnt get them in for the shotgun by the end of the season.

Kinda takes away the whole point of turkey hunting in my opinion. Trying to outsmart that old gobbler, pulling him in close, watching him put on a show and come in strutting and drumming, feeling that major adrenaline rush when he gobbles from twenty yards away....I could go on and on, but yall get the picture.

i dont see how shootin a turkey at 150 yards can even be fun. hek if i did that i could kill 100 dang turkeys a year.. i like shooting them about 10 or 20 yards more like 30. but yea its illegal here in kentucky. i agree it should be illegal everywere in the u.s

RE: .17 HMR for turkey
Does everyone just read the thread title and form an opinion without reading the question? I never once said that I was sniping turkey at long range, I even stated that I disagree with it. What I said was that an oportunity for a shot over forty yards was extremely improbable with the dense brush and palmettos. You still have to call them in close and there's a good chance that you'll be taking a head shot which is much harder with the .17 than a shotgun. What I was asking was if the .17 has enough penetration for a body shot?
