My two favorites are the Tough Country slate over glass by Blodgett and the Double Trouble cedar slate over slate by Close Calls.

Both calls go for around $40-45. Plenty reasonable for the quality you get.

Go to www.midwestturkeycall.com to check out the Blodgett calls and www.close-calls.com for Ronnie Cloughs stuff. You' ll be delighted with either, but better yet buy both!! [:-]

I got an e-mail today from Steve Harrison saying my Osage Orange slate was finished and being shipped out tomorrow. Yeeehaw!! Can' t wait to get it! Just in time for the April 21 opener. I have heard a lot of good things about his calls. I' ll be able to tell you how it plays firsthand in a few days. Take a look at his website if you are interested in some premium peg and pot calls. The addy is www.harrisongamecalls.homestead.com.

I heard a lot of good things about Knight and Hale' s Ol' Yeller. Have one on order, cant wait to check it out. Here is a link to a web site with a write up of the call, and some sound files that were made on one.

http://www.turkeyhuntingsecrets.com/...lyellar-kh.htm

For first hand knowledge, called in my first bird last year on an HS Strut AlumiWitch. On public land, heard a distant faint gobble, called in two longbeards from what seemed to be a mile away. Very impressed with the call.

I have quite an assortment of slate calls and my favorite one that is just pure slate and nothing else on it(like glass or crystal) is the LOHMAN THUNDERDOME.
For the money I don' t think you will find a better sounding slate call. Any $100 dollar slate call will not sound better then my old thunderdome.

Actually I just did a review on my webpage about a new slate call I purchased. The Boss Tom Slate over glass (not to confused with our Canadian Quaker Boy Boss Tom ) I am very very happy with this call. Great sound from soft talk to loud. It really likes my Quaker Boy cherry striker and a certain purple heart/osage orange striker I have http://www.midwestturkeycall.com carries them. Beautiful walnut pot which is tappered and a rosewood striker comes with the call.

I Personally like Cody Calls I like any of their calls except the New Cody Glass you see at wal-mart (Don' t confuse this with the Envy Glass that you sometimes also see at wal-mart, The envy says Envy Right on the glass and the New Cody Glass Says Glass On the Glass, I think in green) But as for any of their other calls they are great I would suggest the Woodsman or the Cody II. I would also Reccomend the Knight & Hale Ol' Yeller Sla-Tek, a great sounding call and very easy to use. You also might want to take a look at the Primos Power Crystal another great sounding call. Good luck in finding one you like.
