I had great success with a bushnell banner 1.5x-4.5x with the circle-x reticle. I just left it on 1.5x and when his head and neck took up 1/2 circle he was 40. At 20yrds, his head and neck took up all the circle and if his head and neck was bigger than the circle it was time to shoot!;)

I have the Bushnell Halo Sight. Just patterned my gun with it. I wanted a sight with no magnification. The Bushnell is pricey but for my use it is great, well built, easy to use and set up. A buddy has a regular red dot no comparison. Get the Halo if you can afford it. By the way there are several other halo' s on the market, some more expensive that don' t use a battery, some less expensive about $160.00 that looked good as well but they were made in Russia. All use standard weaver top mounts.

I just put a 2.5 Tasco, i think it' s a proshot reticle, on my 835. I haven' t got to shoot a bird yet this season, but it did really well at the range. I' ve got an email addy for a really good price on this scope if you' re interested.

I' m a scope man as well. Simmons ProDiamond 2X. I love it and will always have one on my turkey gun.

sour,

The Simmons 2X ProDiamond is a fine turkey scope. I used one for 2 years and just couldn' t find a mount that went well with my shotgun. I tried a saddle mount, it got the scope in a good position, but every time I shot, the recoil knocked the sharp corner of the mount into my trigger finger (ouch![:@]). So, the next season I bought a cantilever mount, now there was no finger pain, but the scope was so far away from my eye that I had to lean clear into my thumb to shoot (ouch again![:@]). So that' s why I removed the Simmons for this year and decided to try the Burris red dot. When I get my 870 drilled and tapped I just might go back to that Simmons scope.

You better make sure you can do that to an 870. When i bought mine i told the dealer/smith that i wanted this done and what i got back was a complete and total butcher job of the receiver. Four holes total. The first hole came in contact with the flange on the end of the barrell and consequently would only bite a couple of threads of the mounting screw. You may have a better smith in mind that is more knowledgable in this area than the one i had. Just a word of caution from somebody that has been down that road before.
