If the 3" inch shells gave you the best patterns, I'd be shooting them. If the 3 1/2" shells aren't patterning as well, then there is no benefit to shooting them, you're just blowing your shoulder out of socket for nothing. Whatever puts the most pellets in the bird is what I shoot.

There are certain advantages to testing chokes, but all in all, I agree. MOST if not all of todays loads will put birds on the ground.

I agree,that is why I am wanting a new choke,so I can get the 3 1/2 to pattern just as well.Would like to extend the range of the gun but really don't want to get hurt in the process.[&:]

My stepdad has the same gun but he got his barrel ported and he said it made a noticable difference,if a tube won't do what I want,I might look into doing that.


I am definately going to put a sims pad on,regardless of what else I do.

I think I just found my problem.My tube is a .640 and that is probably just too tigh and causing the recoil problems along with opening the groups up when more and or bigger shot is used.I have always had better luck with smaller shot.

I might open it up myself and port it just to see what happens.I am a tool maker by trade so this is something I can do myself.

I would try a Remington Factory super full turkey choke ;)They pattern good out of all my (3) remington turkey guns;);)

I made the jump and bought a Kick's .665 choke tube.It is ported so I really expected a little improvement but not too much.


I also got a scope mount so I can use my red dot scope that I had laying around.


I must say that my initial opinion is a noticable difference in recoil.I shot a couple 3 1/2" 5's at 30 yards and the patterern was very tight,then I shot my last #4 at 20 just to see what would happen and it blew my board into about 3 pieces.:D

Usually 3 shots out of this gun would have me in quite a bit of pain but my shoulder was fine.

I think I have a good combo now and should be able to use 4's out to about 40 or so but some more patterning will be done first.

Winchester Supreme Elite Xtended Range Hi-Density Turkey Loads in 3.5" 2 oz #6 will more than likely give you the best patterns at longer shots

If you got their Gobblin Thunder turkey choke I would not recommend using the Winchester Supreme Elite Xtended Range shells or any heavier than lead load. The Kicks choke is not rated for heavier than lead loads.

I would test the 3in instead of the 3.5 in a Winchester HV #6 I would not shoot Hevi shot of any kind out of your choke if it is not rated for it.

Its to bad that you didn't get a .660 for copper/Lead loads but the .665 may shoot to your liking.

Good camo pattern on that gun and nice sock :D
