I saw on another post that you're a newcomer to turkey hunting, so if I were you I'd stay away from mouth calls for a season or two. In my opinion the absolute best call for a beginner is a good box call. I'd recommend the lynch world champion, it's a great sounding call that is two sided, one side produces gobbler yelps and clucks and the other produces hen yelps, clucks, cuts, and purrs. Also slate calls are another good beginner call. Hope this helps! good luck.

My favorite is the Lohman "Thunderdome". Makes THE best sounding yelps out of any call ive ever heard. Hard to say if you can find that call anymore, but if you can you might as well pick one up.

I'd say any call that you can run and make sound somewhat like the turkeys in your area. Mouth calls are tough for some but come naturally to others and there are so many out there to try. What works for one guy might or might not work for the other. Having said that, a box call or a pot / slate / friction call is tough to beat. ALWAYS gotta have at least one of each of those in the vest. There are so many out there its tough to know where to start. IF you could get to a store that has several on display you might give several a try and see what you like, or if you know another turkey hunter that has lots of calls ask if you could try some of theirs out. The main thing is to get a tape or video with some real turkey sounds and whatever call you use have some patience and practice practice practice, before you know it you'll sound better than the turkeys!

Good luck!!

Silence;):D[8D]. For new turkey hunters push button calls are hard to beat as they require little skill. I like "slate" calls, I have several and none are made of slate:eek:.
