BENHUNTIN!
I had a 25lb plus bird with at least a 10 inch beard within 25 yards of me this morning. It took me nearly 2 hours to work him in. I even had to crawl 100 yards
on my hands and knees to close the gap before he moved in. As he craned his neck to give one last look, I took carefull aim and................ CLICK. PUMP, CLICK,PUMP CLICK?????????? [:o] I forgot to load my gun.[&:]
I wanna crawl under a stump.[:' (]

I feel your pain. If I had a nickel for every dumb thing I have done in the field my fortune may rival Donald Trump' s.

Look on the bright side, you were following all the safety rules in treating your gun as if it were loaded!! :D

I have seen it happen to guys in videos before. I am one of those guys that double and triple checks every thing before I leave to go hunting while I' m on my way to go hunting and while I am hunting. I really dont think that I could do that. They say you learn from your mistakes.[&o]

I seen that on one of them vidios! He calls the bird in, CLICK. If you turn your volume up loud enough you can hear him say " F**K!" He calls the bird back in and gets him.

WHEN I READ YOUR POST I STARTED LAUGHING AND IT PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE!!!

I TOO HAVE HEARD THE OLE CLICK, PUTT, AND RUN. TWO YEARS AGO, AND THE SHELLS WERE SITTING NICLEY IN MY BACK POCKET!!!!

WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT NOW, IT MAKES ME LAUGH, ALTHOUGH AT THE TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS RATTLING OFF SOME CHOICE WORDS.

GOOD LUCK THE REST OF THE SEASON!!!

It sure is funny when you think about it.:D Ben, I admire you for admitting the blunder. Now go get that bird (with shells in your gun of course) and post a pic for us.

Sorry to hear that ben, I can surely feel for you. I load my gun as soon as I am far enough away from the road/truck, just so that situation doesn' t happen to me. A few years back a buddy of mine got so dang nervous when this huge gobbler was comming right in to him that he shot when the bird was well over 50 yards away, and his jaw dropped as he watched that great gobbler take flight to parts unknown!!!! Yep, the school of hard nocks will grind into us what not to do!!

Ohhhhhh, you didn' t REALLY want to shoot anyway, did ya? LOL.:D

Last time I worked a 25#+ bird, he got spooked by mushroom hunters. I feel for ya, buddy. :)

I admire you for admitting it so soon after it happened. Dang, that' s gotta smart.
Haven' t not loaded my gun but I did try to shoot one last year with the safety on. New gun, safety in front of trigger guard, old one on back; pulled the trigger and MAN did I flinch. Turkey saw me flinch, too rattled to make a good shot. Missed.

Mr. Longbeard, famous last words!!

I really dont think that I could do that.
