anyone use stardot choke w/mossberg 500??
i had a undertaker and it just would not cooperate with my gun after several different loads. looking to buy another choke and had heard alot of good things about the star dot. i was just wandering if anyone already had a 500 that sported the stardot and what you thought of it. i just don' t want to waste too much more money!

RE: anyone use stardot choke w/mossberg 500??
Hey Click, just noticed your post. I' m using Federal Premium 3" mag in #5 shot with the Stardot choke. I have an awsome pattern at 25 -30 yards and a good pattern at 35. Past that forget it. I have tried the following loads and the one above is the best overall....
Winchester Supreme high velocity 3" #5' s
Winchester Supreme high velocity 3" #6' s
Federal Premium Grand Slam high velocity 3" #5' s
Federal Premium 3" #6' s
Federal Premium 3" #4' s
Kent Diamond Shot 3" #4' s
Remington (the turkey load, can' t remember the name) 3" #5' s
Remington " " 3" #6' s
Remington " " 2 3/4" #6' s
Remington " " 2 3/4" #4' s
My gun and choke totally hate the high velocity loads. I can' t get a pattern worth a darn with any of the three that I have tried. I don' t know if this is due to the gun, the porting or the choke but the patterns are horrible. The Kent Diamond shot did pretty good but not quite as good as my regular load and the Federal Premium #6' s also did pretty good.
I like the star dot and it has served me well. When I first bought this gun I tried three other chokes and this one performed best. My max range is 35 yards though and a lot of people want more then that. Since I try to set up with my shots at 25 yards it works for me. The pattern at 25 yards is quite incrediable for a $200 gun in my opion.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if you need anything else.....

RE: anyone use stardot choke w/mossberg 500??
I shoot a Mossberg 500, 3" , 26" accu choke barrell, w/ mossberg' s own xx-full choke. I use Nitro ammo 5-6-7 1/2' s multi shot load, and get a whopping 35 pellets in the head(yes the head, not whole target) at 40yds. Before I tried Nitro I had tried Win. high velocity #6, 5, and even 4' s. Remington 5' s, and best I could do with any was 9-12 pellets in the head at 30yds.

Thanks, Wacker. I wasn' t planning on shooting any 3 1/2" s, but maybe I' ll give it a try. I plan on starting with the 3" Win. HV in 5 shot.
I' m thinking about getting one of those new Limbsaver recoil pads, so maybe the 3 1/2s won' t punch so hard. []

hey tscott- what does your pattern look like at 35 yards -- about how many pellets? with the undertaker at 30 yards i average 3 to 6 in the kill zone. thats why i was looking at the stardot. thanks
