This morning I was trying to call in a gobbler, but he just wouldn't come in. I then heard him gobble but he was heading away from me, so I moved a few hundred yards away. I sat down, back up on a big tree, I let out with my gobbler call, he replies. Two minutes go by, all is quiet, I look up and see him strutting coming in, he is 75 yards out, he gobblers once more, he is slowly coming in, then from where he came from I hear another gobbler and then a hen, he runs back up there, after that he didn't make a noise. He was bigger then my other bird I got a few weeks ago which was 21lbs. Maybe tomorrow

Simp, you think at first light I should be set up somewhere along the field? The area I hunt is all deep mountain woods, with this one way out of the way field. This morning I was set up in the field, about 55 yards away from the woods, I was sitting within a big bush, very hidden, directly in front of me was the woods (55 yards away) but super thick with briars I don't thick they will come in from there, but I think they would come in from where I walked into the field (atv trail) in the cornor of the field. This is where I heardthe gobble at first light and then at fly down they gobbled a few times but where heading away from me, so this is when I moved a few hundred yards away, and then saw him

Well, I've found that after rain, and especially heavy rain, the birds will go to an open area so the branches or grass doesn't wet them even more. I would definitely be on that field in the morning. Is it a sizeable field and what does it have in it? Grass...etc...?

It is a very large field, the grass or whatever it is, isn't that overgrown like some of the fields I hunted (no food crops). Like I said, this is a deep woods, mountian area up in Vernon (Sussex County), this is the only field around. I Would think with the rain and the morning dew they would stay out of the fielduntil the warm air dries the field off
Also we where thinking of trying to sneak behind them in the morning, and get as near them while on roost as we can

I don't know man. Sitting in that field would be awfully tempting. It's going to be a wet night for them and they'll want to get out in an open area away from any water that will still be on the leaves. If the sun is out in the morning I would definitely be in that field! If you sit in the woods I'd make sure that I was between them and the field as they'll likely pass you going there.

We went out this morning, we didn't hear not one gobbler at all, they didn't call on there own nor did they reply when we did the calling. My season is over till next year, I had a great turkey season with a great friend. Now we get ready for deer hunting
