Thats not uncommon at all talking on the roost will do that anything can almost get them gobbling on the roost an get them worked up then fly down an nothing i myself dont like to talk to them on the roost (it is fun an can get you just as worked up) but it also lets them know right where you are
an when he comes off the roost it can lock him up. I also try to stay as far awayas possable from the roost if i know their travil patterns it gives them a chance to look for you

we never did talk to them while on roost, while walking to a high vantage point (we can hear from all directions) this where we heard them, they where a distance

I'd at least give it a try! I took one this year with a Pretty Girl and a jake decoy. I put the jake decoy right behind her as if were about to mount her and I had a tom come in to them strutting and running the whole way hoping to "get a piece". He got a piece alright!;)

Try that decoy! It can't hurt.

try as simp said an set up mid way to work them i also have a really nice decoy trick to use that puts the meat on the table you just got to alter the decoy some an its awesome i can email you what to do if you want

Yeah if your going to use a decoy, I would definetly recommend a hen. Who cares what brand, as long as its a hen. In my opinion, the toms are after one thing and one thing only....HENS. I actually recommend the decoy made by Buckwing, its some sort of bobble head decoy, i cant think of the name. Anyways, thats what I use and with a slight amount of breeze, its definetly the most realistic looking decoy out there. Id look at it if i were you. Its not expensive neither.

Boy we had a great opening morning as far as gobbles goes they were sounding off all over unfortunatly they were henned up nad would only come in so far before returning to the ladies. Give it another week and they will be looking for a new woman
