Mossberg 835
If you were getting one of these guns would you go for the 20 barrel version of the 24 barrel version. I would like it to use for other types of hunting particularly small game. Also if you were in the market would you say this gun is a better gun than the benelli nova.

RE: Mossberg 835
I own the 835 for 11 years without a problem, I have the 24" barrel. I think the 24" barrel is perfect for turkey, versus the 20" but not by much. I have to say that I like the 835 better then the NOVA. I shot my friends NOVA last year, I didn't like it, and he had problems trying to pattern it. The 835 is overbored, thus making it more accurate, stronger, but heavier. The only things I will be doing (I should of done during the winter) is put fiber optic sights onthe barrel, back in the day mine just came with a bead, and replace the factory choke tube with a aftermarket, I'm leading towards a KICKS turkey choke. There isn't anything wrong with the factory tube, just with todays tubes they are well improved

Either one will work just as good as the other. Just remember that if you use an extended choke, like the Jelly Head for example, you'll be adding 2 inches to the over all length of the barrel. If that's the case, I'd get the 20" barrel and go with a 2" extended choke and you'd have a 22" barrel. Likewise, with the 24" barrel you'd have the 2" extended choke and effectively have a 26" barrel.

Aw! I just saw where you'll be using it for small game as well! A 20" barrel will probably be too short then. It'll do the job but if you're shooting with someone you'll ring their ears with the short barrel. Definitely the 24".

My friend purchased the 870 Super Mag, along with a Remington super full turkey choke last week, this past Monday he took a gobbler at 50 yards, I guess its patterend. I agree the 870 Super Mag is heavier then the 835

The longer the barrel the tighter the pattern right? so why not go with a 24".... Does the waterfowl 28" barrel pattern real tight at long distances..? What is the major differences between say a 22" and a s28" barrel..?

Major difference between a 22" and a 28"....... about half a foot.
Strutter... I know you do your homework..... I shoot a 20" barreled 835 and my best friend shoots a 24" 835. With our current set ups, mine outshoots his. How much is really negligable... we are talking about the difference between 209 and 185 pellets of Hevi-13 #6 in a 10" circle at 40 yards. We shoot exactly the same shell, and when I ran that test I found that his gun shoots BETTER with my choke tube than the custom tube he had specially made for his gun. So now he is trying to get me to sell him my Pure Gold... I'm thinking of picking up and Indian Creek and if it shoots any better or just as good I'll probably give it to him.... his wife and he just gave my fiancee and I about $1200 worth of furniture for $100..... I think I owe him one
