Default Mossberg 835 why is it so good for turkey?

I have read alot of post on hear and say that the 835 is probably the best turkey gun. I don't want to start a war or anything but i am just woundering what sets it apart from my 870 super mag? Also what is the Accu choke? The reason i am asking is I might buy one next year for turkey hunting. Right now i use my super mag for deer, turkey, ducks, geese I have the rifled barrel for deer but i just the the 26" barrel for everything else. And i can get a 835 for a pretty good price that comes with one short barrel and a longer barrel both have choke tubes.

Because it has the basic requirements of an extremely popular gun: Affordable, available and effective.

But seriously here.... the key to its overwhelming reign as the king of the 12 gauge turkey guns is because its "over-bored". In laymens terms (which is how I talk), mossberg started with a 10 gauge barrel and made the chamber to shoot 12 gauge shells. This reduces pressures and pellet deformation, two things that generally lead to better (tighter, more dense, uniform) patterns.

Couple that with the fact that its about half the price of the 870 dressed in camo and is also lighter in weight.....whats not to love?

I will personally say however, with no hesitation, that as far as reliablity/cycling is concerned, I think the 870 is a vastly superior gun. I've gone to shuck out shells after a hunt and two loaded shells eject and nothing gone into the chamber. For turkey hunting... no big deal.. its pretty much a single shot game.

But when it comes to patterns, you couple an 835/935 with a good aftermarket choke tube and a high density shot, and I'd put it up againest any other hunt ready 12 gauge from any manufacturer. There are always exceptions and there are some dang good shooting BPSs and Win 1200s and even a couple 870s (most of them older).... but the 835 is always going to be a top performer.

To me 870 is better just because the MB that I own and others I have shot, they all seem to have a loose pump action, the 870 is just a little tighter and smoother action to me. Far less jams as well.
MBby far makes a nice product and when you got one all, "souped up" I am sure it will out perform an 870.

Ya i might just pick up another 12ga 870 non super mag and use that for deer sence i already have the fully rifled barrel. Then I would probably just make my super mag my turkey, duck, geese gun. But who knows i am diffently go to look into a 835. But iown 2 870s a 20ga andthe super mag and neither have ever let me down.

SwampCollie summed it up pretty good. I use an 835 and I absolutely love it and I too would put it up against any other 12ga turkey gun. Highly recommend the gun to you.
