Default Idiot arrested for poaching turkeys

Last week, not more than 10 miles from my land in Louisiana,a man was arrested for shooting two turkeys in a pasture from the road. He stated he got out of his truck and snuck up on two gobblers in a pasture on private land off the road and shot them. Someone who witnessed it called the G.W. Good for that person. They arrested the man at his home, which was a good 15 miles away from where he poached. He was arrested for shooting a firearm from a public road, trespassing, shooting over the legal daily limit, and hunting without a turkey license and stamp. What an idiot. Unfortunately there are thousands of slobs like this who get away with it. I can't understand how a person can just walk on someone's land not having a clue who they are and do something like this. What pisses me off is, most of us turkey hunters work our butts off to get a longbeard, and an idiot like this just rides around shooting turkeys off the road making it harder for law abiding hunters to bag one. At least they caught this guy.

I have a good HS friend who's a warden here in WI and a good share of my family was/isemployed by various police and sheriff's dept's. It would make you sick if you knew how often that kind of activity goes down...geese, pheasants, turkeys, deer, you name it.
Alot of guys still get off with a slap on the wrist though.
Sickening.

Yeah, I know it goes on all the time and it does make me sick. Unfortunately, there are probably just as many poachers as there are legal law abiding hunters. There are just not enough wardens out there to catch a fraction of them and the poachers know this. Add to the fact that finesare low enough to where it's worth the risk.

dont try that in missouri. a couple of kids got caught poaching deer a couple od years ago and they got slammed. They took all their guns, bows, mounts, you name it. along with fines totaling almost 25 thousand dollars and losing their hunting privilges for 5 years. not near long enough but still a start.

But it does happen alll the time here in Mo and in most every other state. We Had a guy set up his blind on one of our properties 2 seasons ago. Didn't know he was there till after daylight. The Guest hunting our blind, told us about it after he came out from his hunt at 1pm(hunt day ends) On his way out he heard a shot, that was after legal shooting time. I went in that afternoon to put a note on his blind, (he actually left it there to hunt from again) telling him to remove it from our ground or it would be confiscated. We were trying to be nice about it. He tore up the note and continued to hunt, so I confiscated his blind.

Thing is,, going in to leave the note, I noticed a bird laying at the edge of the field on my way to his blind. On my way back out, I drove over to it and it made an atempt to get up and run off. It couldn't fly or run well at all, as it had a broken wing and leg. So I had to dispatch the bird myself. Now that was bad enough to be tresspassing, and to shoot a bird after legal hrs. but to leave it injured and not try to find it. Heck it was only 100 yds from his blind, straight down the field. That was what pissed me off the most.

i hear ya. it still does happen but the main thing is we all need to work together to try to keep this from happening as much as possible. I know it will never be completely dissolved but that shouldn't keep us from doin what we can.
