Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Youth Turkey Success!

Took my little brother out opening day of the youth turkey season. I knew where the birds were roosting so we got there right at sunrise and started doing a little cutting and running from the cabin. We heard a few gobbles but nothing too exciting. I took him to a spot where he missed a bird last year and we set up. Within 5 minutes we had three toms hot and on their way to the calls. Right as i was telling him to swing his gun over 4 hens popped up over the hill and came looking around at about 5 yards. I could hear the toms doing the spit/drum but could not see them yet. The hens started putting and acting a little spooky but the toms came anyway. 3 big ol swingers came up and moved along the ridge right in front of bens shotgun. He was a mature bird but both of his spurs were broken off at about a half inch and one was just barely hanging on to his leg (really rockey soil) 10 inch beard and weighed a whopping 24 pounds! I have come to the conclusion that he is the luckiest turkey hunter alive. I have taken him out 2 times now and he has killed a double bearded bird (11" and 5.5"), a 10.5 inch bird and a 10" bird.

I think the youth hunt is great. Way to get out and introduce a youngster to a life long passion.
