THUNDER CHICKENS - 1 ME - 0
Ok folks advice on how to attack this mornings bird. I struck a bird this morning about 75yds from the truck. The winds were a little high this morning and it sounded as if the was about100yds awayon a green field. i slipped on down the road about 25ydsand set up behind a dirt bank in the curve. I continued calling a coyple more times with no response so I figured he was comming in quiet. After about 15min I heard him again off to my right but still sounded if he was way off. I decided to move and try to cut him off. I moved back up the road to my 1st calling position and stepped in the woods. I hadn't taken 2 steps before I found myself face to face with him at 30yds. Well you know the rest of the story.
Should I have gone straighht at him from the start or was my first setup the right thing to do?

Patience, my son. If he responded to you at the first spot why move? He knows you are there, just wait him out. If he does not show after about 45 minutes and no reponse then move. Just try to get a fix on his position before doing so. Maybe crow call to get a shock gobble if he does not respond to turkey calls.

The most important thing you could do in that situation is make sure he knows you are there. Be patient. Real patient. I've been in the same situation as you and learned from it. Good luck.
