-No restrictions on shot size except for spring gobbler season when it is unlawful to have any shot in possession larger than number 2 fine shot while hunting.

-Rifles may be used for taking wild animals and birds, except migratory game birds and waterfowl (see Game Species Definitions), and where prohibited by local ordinances (see Local Firearms Ordinances).
-Rifles used for deer or bear must be .23 caliber or larger.

This is off of the VDGIF webpage. The only caliber size listed is for deer and bear. You can also see that rifles may be use for taking wild birds, with the exceptions listed. A good many turkey snipers in the Virginia. [:' (]

Callin' them in is to me what turkey hunting is all about - Even if they did legalize rifles for hunting them here in WA, I wouldn' t do it.

There has been times when I wish I could of used a rifle....when the dang critter gets hung up just outta range. But in all reality I' m with the other fellas 100% who are telling you a shotgun is the best....for safety and for the sport.

Read page 73 of the Hunting and Trapping in VA booklet, TScottW99 is exactly right. I have a friend who watched a hunter die after being mistaken for a turkey. I do not remember what the rifle caliber was. To beat it all the guy was trespassing and had trespassed across two other posted properties to get to the posted property he wanted to hunt. I really do not understand why VA allows rifles for turkey during the spring.

when someone is traspassing he is just plainw rong ,it doesnot matter if he is hunting with a " stick" . So way even mention that he was using a rifle??

I mentioned it because I, like a lot of others, feel that spring turkey hunting should be rifle free. I used this as a real life example of some of the idiots out there turkey hunting. Obviously the guy was wrong for trespassing....that is very obvious, a no brainer. I believe that if rifles had been illegal that accident could have been prevented but who knows the guy could have trespassed and used a rifle anyway.

I' m not saying that anyone who uses a rifle to hunt turkey is a trespasser, if that is what you got from my post, you read more in to it than was intended.
