RE: rifle for turkey?
If you were gonna do it, one of the smaller claibers would be best. If and when it' s legal where you are....a farmer told me the best place to hit them was " in the butt" He didn' t say if from the side or from the rear. He mentioned you' d want to break the pelvis. Being that it I was in AL during deer season, and I was on his land, and that it' s illegal; I didn' t ask too many questions about that particular subject.

ORIGINAL: TScottW99 Against my wishes, it' s legal in Virginia. [:@] I don' t think there are any caliber restrictions though. Butch |
RE: rifle for turkey?
Using a rifle for turkey, it just doesn' t seem right. Kind of like fishing out of an aquarium or goldfish pond. [:o] Like Bruce, I will stick to the Rem 870 exp mag 12ga

RE: rifle for turkey?
Let' s not start knocking the methods guys, if it' s legal then it' s up to the hunter, IMO dangeruos and not as fun, but that' s not the issue.

RE: rifle for turkey?
Rimfires except .22 magnum and 5mm magnum are illegal. so i guess we could use a .17 or a 22 lr. this is in Oklahoma, though its legal i have never heard of anyone using a rifle on turkey.

RE: rifle for turkey?
Misplaced Buckeye, if you by chance were talking to me, I am not knocking the method. If it is legal in your particular state and you want to long range hunt your turkey, then by all means do so. As for me, even if it were legal in Arkansas, I have already voiced my opinion on it.

RE: rifle for turkey?
Ive never been keen on the idea of rifles in turkey season only because of the few horror stories we all hear about some IDIOT mistaking a hunter for a bird. However i am thinking about letting my 12 yr old daughter hunt with my .243 this year. My 12 ga has too much kick for her and i' m not able to buy a lighter shotgun at this time... Anyone have any ideas on bullet wt, type, etc. for a .243 ????
