Part 2!---11-87 owners
#1
Some of you read my post a few days ago about getting a new 11-87. well, I finally did it and now I have a new question. some of you said that you do shoot 11-87's my question is what choke tube with what shells patterns best for you? My season opens sat. and I won't have time to pattern the new gun. I guess I could use my old one, but I would really rather not. any comments will be appreciated. oh, it's a rem. 11-87 12 ga. 28" barrel, 3 in....(who can afford the super mag?)

yeah, I sure am. and don't try to give me the ethics talk about not patterning a shotgun. I am an avid bowhunter and no all about tuning and practicing before hunting. the fact of the matter is that a turkey at 20- 30 yards is gonna get whacked whether I pattern it or not. I was just looking for some suggestions.

Not patterningyour turkey gun! Anyone that feels they don't need to take the time to pattern their turkey gun should NEVER call themselves a turkey hunter! Well just read your username, I see now where you got it.
I hope your barrel is slightly bent just enough!

Dude it doesent take that long to shoot a few shells at a turkey target... What you said is true... If you keep your shot 30 yards and under... You should not have a prob... I would get a Remington factory super full turkey choke and a box of Winchester HV #5's and you should be fine with this set up out to 40 yards... But without patterning... I would play it safe and not shoot past 30-35 yards

Come on fellas, there are no laws about patterning a gun before one can go hunting. Back when I first got into turkey hunting nobody around patterned their gun including myself and I don't remember anybody having trouble. After realizing my patterns were awful on paper I got things tightened up and now it seems like all my shots are 20 yards or less and I just cant hit em when they are that close.
My suggestion to gamespooker is to use the full choke that came with the gun and try to keep the shots 35 yards or less. After all some people that have the tight patterns say they won't shoot past 35 anyway.
BTW one of the guys I hunt with is in his mid 70's and always quail hunted and got into turkey hunting about 4 or 5 years ago. The tightest choke he has is modified in a 12. He says he is good to 35 and has yet to miss or lose a turkey with that gun and he has taken several.
