Swampcollie, you mentioned weight of semi autos, I have to make another vote for the Stoeger,, very light for an auto, and not affected by dirt and mud.

Thats why I wrote "most" semi-autos. The stoeger was the exception that acctually came to mind... it, the franchi and the benelli... the recoil and inertia guns. But they are the exception not the rule.. and all of them are still close to pound heavier than my pump gun.

Yeah, I agree, it dont get a lot lighter than a pump gun. But the guns you mentioned, Stoeger, Franchi, and Benelli are lighter than my 1187. But my 1187 shoots just about as good, but for the money, and comfort I love the Stoeger.

I like semi autos, especially for wingshooting. 870 is simply a mule though. Heck just get/keep both.:D

How much does the Stoeger run?

A black finish is usually between $399-400. For camo you can add $50-75. They also make a steady grip version which is very nice for around $480-500.

I dont have any Remingtons, just Mossbergs. But I have never ever heard a bad thing about a Remington 11-87. Only good things. If I was to get a semi-auto, that would be the first one Id consider.

I don't own a semi-auto and am not too familiar with them, so take what I say with a grain of salt. It just seems that you're limiting yourself if it can only shoot 3". JMHO.
