Tactical style turkey guns??? Help me out.
 

Im getting ready to buy a new turkey gun, since I sold my Stoeger m2000 a few weeks ago,, I couldnt pass up trading it,, even though I really loved it,, But I wished I had bought it with the Steady Grip stock. Im wanting a turkey gun with a tactical style stock, like the Steady Grip Bennelli, or the Mossberg Tactical Turkey.. But I also want a 3 1/2 inch semi-auto. So far from what I found, Benelli is the only company who make what Im after,, I can get the Stoeger with a Steady Grip, but only in 3 inch, I guess thats not a big deal.. Im a Remington fan for sure, and they are making a great looking tactical gun called the 870 Max Gobbler,, but its a pump gun, and I already have several pump guns. What should I try to get,, has any of you used the tactical style stocks?? And how did you like it?? Is it comfortable to hold for a long time? Should I spend the fortune to get a Benelli, or just get the 3" Stoeger? I have emailed Mossberg about them making their 935 with the Tactical Turkey stock, but they wont respond to me.. Sounds like you answered your own question;). I would definitely go with the Benellitoo. That's a nice gun and I'll be one jealousturkey hunterif you get it! You wont be sorry you bought a Benelli.

If you don't mind spending the money, then get the Benelli. It's up to you. We can't make that decision for you. I love the 870. It's a great gun, but it's obviously not what you want. Like Simp said, looks like your mind is already pretty much made up. The only problem now is making yourself buy the gun, good luck.

I put a steady grip on my SBE 1,it makes a big difference in the comfort of shooting and holding the gun. The camo doesn't match, but turkey hunting ain't no beauty contest.

I just picked up a steadygrip stock for my SBE II. It is amazing.:D After getting used to the contours and grip of this gun all others seriously feel huge and bulky. I now refer to my dads mossberg as a hunk of metal.

I have mixed emotions.

When Benelli first brought out the steady grip, I got the chance to use one on a hunt that first spring. I really liked it. I didn't take a bird with it, but the ease of the set up and being able to control the gun was very very nice. The benellis are light in weight as well.

I am not a fan of the extendable stocks, in particular the one mossberg is using. The way that I shoulder the gun, and maybe its just me, but the lip of that extendable butt is sitting right slam on my cheek bone.... and I wouldn't want to light a roman candle off with my cheek bone on that curb edge! No thanks! Additionally, I have wide hands and short fingers (I was made for the water I guess), but when I have that shotgun up and my thumb is around that pistol grip.. I have no way to take the top tang safety off on a Mossberg! I guess it just comes from strict lessons when I was a kid, but I tend not to take the safety off until about 5-10 seconds before I pull the trigger. Old habits. Thats a non-issue with other trigger guard style safeties, which I honestly prefer.

I have been shooting an 835 Grand Slam since spring of 2004, standard old stock and I have been very pleased by it.

You definately don't need a semi for turkey hunting... pump guns tend to be a bit lighter (thats case dependant... Benellis are very light), but if you want a semi for any reason, then that is a good enough reason to get one.

Thanks guys,, I am really having a hard time spending $1200 for a shotgun,, Im just not hardly able to do it, but then again, If Remington DID make the 1187 with a stock like this, it would probably cost $1000. I already have 3 870s so its not that I dont like 870s I just didnt want to buy another one. I got a little spoiled with the Stoeger I had being a semi-auto, and I know its not necessary at all, but Id like another auto. The only difference I can find in the Benelli and the Stoeger is 3" versus 3 1/2" and $450 versus $1200! The Stoeger is Imported by Benelli or something and uses Benellis Inertia Operating System, so I really need to decide if I want another 870, or another Stoeger.

You can always save yourself some money by just putting a pistol grip type stock on one of the 870s you already have. Use the money you saved to travel up to the Dakotas and shoot a merriam or something like that. Just a thought! I'm sure you'll be happy no matter the outcome!

Dude cabela's has a pistol grip stock for your 870... I bought one for my 870 and then got some camo from camo clad and just camo'ed the gun and it looks awsome... The benelli is nice... But I cant see were the gun is worth 1200 bucks;)
