Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

I just bought an 11-87. Who here has patterned one up with a 28 inch barrell and what choke tube is best for you?
Just an inquiry before I go out and blow 20 bucks on something that sucks.

well, alot of sugestions can be made here but it really boils down to what your gun likes. no substitue for putting shells through it to see for yourself. as for chokes its possible to spend more on them than you spent buying the gun. the numbers that your looking for ( aprox 9 - 15 good consistent hits in the head and neck on your pattern target at apropriate range ) can usally be had with factory rem chokes XXF, or you can start up the ladder of a choke quest ( start by turning the wallet upside down ) most 35 to 40 yard kills can be done and are done yearly with factory equipment. ( like JW! says 4's will be a good choice but try a couple of different brands and loads ) Good Luck.

I would start with the factory choke tubes and the cheapest box of turkey ammo you can find and start there. Chances are in 90 percent of guns in 90 percent of hunting situations this combo will do the trick just fine. I shoot a remington super full that came with the gun and the Winchester Supremes in #6s (which at 20 bucks a box is one of the "cheaper" loads out there). If for some reason your gun doesn't like that ammo, then I would try some of the expensive stuff. It would be a shame to buy one of these $50 boxes of ammo and find out they shoot like crap in your gun haha. I think as a general rule most shotguns are much less picky about the ammo they are fed then rifles. Good luck!

I'd have to second this advice... All my Remingtons pattern good at 40 yards with the Factory super full turkey chokes and Winchest HV #5's or #6's... I like the #5's thoe

Thanks, I've actually sighted/patterned a gun in before...
Gun doesn't come with the choke, I'll need to throw the money at one, so before I buy one that sucks, I guess I'll ask if someone already uses an 11-87 and get their input. Just in case the Undertaker I use and love for my mossberg just happens to suck in a remington....

you took the words right out of my mouth. the rem extra full is pretty awesome for only $25-30. i've had great success with it on my 870 with FED. #5s 3". but maybe it would be different out of a 11-87.

well, i actully had an 870, 1100, and 1187 tryed many different loads on paper the 870 was the best of the bunch and that was with an aftermarket hastings barrel. thats why i sold them all and whent mossburg half the money, much better gun, o by the way dont try threading that mossburg choke into the remchoke, different thread pattern. yes that would suck trying to get that back outa there.[8D]good luck
