I always just thought it was my heart trying to turn over and not hitting on much.

Two springs ago I was almost asleep in the sun at about 9:30 when I heard that sound coming from directly behind me. Talk about a heart racer...

Best sound in the spring woods....better have your gun up....I had a conversation one time with a fella who visits this board once inawhile named Denny Gulvas and he'll tell ya as also believe that toms not only communicate vocallyby gobbling but alsoby spitting and drumming especially those old silent suckers who somehow end up with all the ladys...

For some reason I can't hear it. It could be the fact that I have a bad ear which also makes it hard to tell where exactly the gobble was.

I can hear the spit though just no drumming.

I've heard once and it was directly behind me, never heard him gobble or any other indication that he was behind me, other than the drumming. After about 20 minutes of listening to him behind me, I tried to ease around, but of course, you can probably guess what happened next. [&:]
