Scouting and knowing the land that you are hunting is very important. If you know the land you will be able to know where you might be able to get ahead of the bird or birds. Have more than one bird scouted out just in case the first one doesnt work out.

Some great reply's all...I dont know,we all make our reply's from personal experiences afeild and I truely believe there is know other factor out there that plays a roll in our success or not afield than just that "experience"!The more we have opportunities to experience the real hands on approach of our own stretch's of turkey woods the more we mature as a turkey hunter.Experience supplies us with the knowledge, preperation, and the will to wait out and keep after those stubborn woodswise gobblers....with all that said preperation is my real key to success...
...good luck all...Bob...

Scout and calling.
Scout hard so you know where the turkeys are roosting, flying down, feeding, strutting, dusting, etc.
Know how to call in certain circumstances. (calling to hens, lonesome gobbler, hungup gobbler, etc.)

i think the key to turkey hunting is just finding a bird in the spring that wants to work. and also scouting if you have the time and patterening the birds that you intend on hunting
