New to me Rem 1100!!
Hey guys, I picked up my son(and myself) a Remington 1100 Lt 20 Youth model National Wild Turkey Federation today. It is used but in perfect condition. It was owned by a woman who bought it for a trap gun, but she couldnt get it to consistently eject the light target loads she shoots trap and skeet with.. She called Remington and they told her it wasnt designed to shoot those light loads. It has fiber optic sights and a 21 inch barrel and so far shoots great but I didnt have time to put a lot of rounds through it yet. I got it for my son, but Im sure Ill have to shoot it to keep it from seizing uplol. He already has an 870 youth model, but I couldnt pass up this one. I already have a turkey choke for the 870 and will try it out in this gun, hopefully it patterns well, but first thing is a rabbit hunt first thing in the morning.

That's a pretty sharp looking little shotgun, tell your boy good luck with it! I also was started with a youth 870 that my father got for me. I'm sure that 1100 will be even better for turkey hunting, with that semi action to soak up a little bit of the recoil for him. i'm 23 now and i still use my youth shotgun for rabbit hunting, its so nice and compact that its perfect wehn you get in the brush and briars, i'm sure you will both have a lot of fun with it

I don't know about yours but I bought my wife a light 20 1100 a few years back and it is only chambered for 2 3/4" shells.I can't find any 2 3/4" turkey loads for the 20 guage but wereally love this gun for everything else. I really appreciate the low recoil when I spend an afternoon in the dove fieldor a morning in the duck blind. You will really enjoy it too.

Thanks guys, it is chambered for 3" shells, I shot it a lot today and it shot great,, and ejected every shell I put in it, even light target loads. But I tried out my Hastings x-full in it with some 3" 6s and it was pretty impressive, Im going to try some 5s in it too. My son shot it some today too, and for a 5 year old who could barely hold it, he was doing pretty well, but most of his shots were high, but the first time with a shotgun. I have to say, the more its in my hands the more I like it.

holy cow your son is only five and he can handle that 20 gauge? Must be a strong boy, at what age are kids legal to hunt where you live? i'm from NY and we weren't allowed to hunt small game, including turkey until we were 12, and you weren't allowed to deer hunt until you were 16. I think NY has one of the higher age requirements though, and i have been reading that hunting groups are trying to get it lowered to encourage more kids to get into hunting.
