RE: what's your camo pattern?
Realtree X-tra Brown most of the season...Been a Realtree fan since their very first pattern hit the markets. Then it's Mossy Oak Break-Up after the leaves drop. Wanting to try some NatGear this year.

RE: what's your camo pattern?
I have always had good luck with Realtree x-brown. I'm going to get some realtree hardwoods green this season.

RE: what's your camo pattern?
I'm curious, what's this fascination with green in the spring woods? I've had turkeys, all game for that matter, closer to me while wearing ASAT then any camo I've owned and that would be Predator, Realtree, Mossy Oak, military, Treebark etc...the important thing is to break up your outline and none of these do that better than ASAT or Predator regarless of surroundings. Any rebutle?

RE: what's your camo pattern?
I do most of my hunting in the N. Sacramento valley and if I hunt on the east side of the valley you cant beat Realtree's HD Hardwoods pattern because it blends in perfect with the whiteoak and surplus of lava rock from Mt Lassen! On the west side its either Realtree HD Hardwoods Green or Advantage Timber because of the makeup of the foilage.Good camo is that, that matches or blends in with the country you hunt in and with the 3D patterns our manufacturers keep coming out with we have a great opportunity to become part of the forest we hunt in as long as we learn to sit still.A true test of your camo pattern comes when ole longbeard is within our limits to pull the trigger and we have to make those slight adjustments to get on him.Good camoflauge and knowing when to move can give you a little freedom to move undetected making it priceless in alot of cases, but it is truly amazing how an ole tom turkey can recognize something out of the ordinary and pick up movement! :)

RE: what's your camo pattern?
Rob,I tend to agree especially in early season. Not only matching your surroundings but your overall set-up is the real key to good camoflauge. You've hit the nail on the head by saying breaking up your outline.Obviously having the right colors is part of this but it doesn't matter what camo you wear you cant set-up in the middle of an open field and expect not to stand out!Grey is the key color in our habitat here and a combination of colors added to it plus a good set-up such as against a large white oak really break up your outline well in my part of the turkey woods!Good point my friend!!!

RE: what's your camo pattern?
I have always broke up the patterns of my Camo while turkey hunting. I like the Fall Advanage for pants or bottom color and Realtree brown for a Top color, this is my early spring colors. As the season progress I will change my top color with the season and go to the Realtree AllPurpose green . I believe I would sooner look like a Real Tree then a Mossy Oak ...BT

RE: what's your camo pattern?
Have always preferred Realtree Hardwoods. Bought a set of Predator and NatGear for last year's elk hunting trip. Will use one of them this year on turkeys. Only problem I'm having is deciding which one. I'm leaning toward the Predator.

RE: what's your camo pattern?
PowDuck, I think the patterns such as Predator, SticksnLimbs, and ASAT are your best choices in camo so I don't think you'll go wrong with Predator. These patterns just seem to do a better job of breaking up your outline.

RE: what's your camo pattern?
Rob/PA, the fascination for green in the turkey woods is because that is the most dominate color in the woods, around here at least, during the season.
Spring season here is only two weeks in late April, when everything is bloomed out in the most brilliant green you can find. Wearing the brown striped stuff would make me stand out like a sore thumb. Nothing in the woods where I hunt looks like that camo. Mostly pine tree with dark brown bark and oaks or sweetgums in the bottoms. Mossy Oak Break-up is 80% black now and of no use to me any more. For me it's Realtree X-brown (has lots of green despite the name) or the Mossy Oak with lots of green leaves on it (Shadow Leaf I think). The art of camo is to blend in with your surroundings as closely as possible. Give 'em a barrel! |
