Addiction
#12
I am a turkey hunting addict and I have been addicted since 2002. Got my best gobbler (and first gobbler) a couple years ago. He had 2 beards, one was 6.5" and the other was 10.25 inches long, both spurs were 1.625 inches long and he weighed about 27 pounds. Taxidermist says it was the best turkey he had ever seen and he has been doing taxidermy work since the mid 70's. The up-close and personal expierences that turkey hunting offers can't be found anywhere else!!

What makes a mature long beard other than just not being a jake? A 2 1/2 year old will likely weigh 21-22 lbs, have atleast an 8-9" beard, and 3/4-7/8" spurs (atleast in my area)....is that mature. I know a very few people that will glass the birds as their strutting in and check out the spurs. Anything without true limb hangers will get the pass. Anything with will get shot. But who's to say a bird lacking the genetics isn't mature?!?!?
I got into it about the same time as you did,but thendecided on taking mature long beards only since 1992.Yes, it is an addiction!!

Been at it since 1985...for the first 3 years I had to drive 2 hours one way just to find birds!!!...It was a real bummer on days they weren't gobbling...
...So needless to say I didn't hunt much those first few years...[X(]

I'm Kingvjack and I'm an addict.... I've been eating Turkeys since 1994. The only birds I don't shoot are Jakes, and thats to guarantee that I can eat them next year when they pack more chest meat on them. I kill and eat hens in the fall,,, Just to help my Spring Gobbler obsession....
