.22 mag for turkeys?

i am new to turkey hunting and wondered if you could use a .22 magnum to kill turkeys? if so what loads do you use?

p.s. is it true that there are loads for .22;s that shoot shot like shotguns?

Where legal it would work fine.....the 22 shotshell loads are barely effective on birds and chipmunks past 10 yards....

As long as you do it on your property and not on Public land![:@]It is inconsiderate of the safety of other turkeyhunters in the area. Besides many states prohibit the use of .22 cal for huntig other than small game...

Wow! I suggest you stay out of the woods until you go through the Hunter's Safety Course!

those .22 "rat shot " loads are good for grasshoppers (the BIG ones ) at about 3 yards...other than that , they shouldnt even SELL them!

I don't know why anyone would even consider trying to take a turkey with a .22, magnum or not. It's illegal in most states anyway, and for good reason.

Yes you could use a .22, but a shotgun is much more fun. There is nothing better than getting a gobbler twenty yards from you. If you really want to get hooked on turkey hunting, take the shotgun and try at least half of the season using a shotgun. Then, if you don't get one and just have to take the rifle out, then take the .22. That's what I would suggest. Take a bird with a shotgun one time and you will be hooked for life!!
