i just wondered if you could. i took the hunter safety course 2 years ago i hunt on my own land in thie safety course they said nothin about "rat shots" why do you suggest i take the hunter safety course again?
They said nothing about rat shot because nobody hunts with rat shot. Rat shot is for, well, RATS, not turkeys. Hence the word RAT shot. Rebel Hogs comment was directed to you because of your innocent ignorance of ammunition. Don't worry about it, now you know what rat shot is. Rat shot is little tiny pellets crammed in a .22 load to kill rats, oh, and grasshoppers,at a close distance. Not saying you would even try, but my advice to you would be not to try to take a turkey with a .22, be it legal or not. As r33h stated, the greatest part of turkey hunting is working that gobbler into shotgun range.

For me the biggest part of turkey hunting is meeting the challenge of out witting a gobblerwith calling. Taking a rifle would defeat the challenge so you'll never see or hear me hunting with a rifle. Even if it were legal in the states I hunt, I wouldn't consider it. And like the other members posted, those 22 shot shells are useless for anything bigger than chipmunk 3 feet away! I use them just to scare and maybe put a bruise on those damn black birds! You know the ones; they flock up in packs of 50 right over your truck in the fall and crap everywhere [:@]

If it's legal in your state, the safety aspect of hunting with a rifle is another big reason why you shouldn't consider it.Most state don't require hunter orange when turkey hunting.Private property or not, can you be 100% positive that another hunterisn't behind that turkey you would be trying to shoot? Remember now, he's in full camo! not moving! and probablyworking the gobbler you want to shoot into his lap or direction. Heck, you hear every year about someone getting peppered with shotgun shot, I wouldn't want to see the numbers if everyone hunted with rifles :(

I’d hope that you would reconsider the rifle hunting and take the challenge of calling one from a far. I know I’d personally have more respect for a hunter that called a gobbler in from 200 hundred yards out than one that legally shot one with a rifle 75 yards away. Best of luck and I hope you have a great season ;)

Last night I tried to kill a rabbit that has been tormenting my dog. I used my .22(in town), so I loaded it up with the .22 bird shot, which has #12 shot in. Waste of time! Next time Im bringing my bow out, it will kill better, better range, and have a little fun.:D

Mossberg, I noticed you have been asking alot of questions(deer forum) and it appears your very new to hunting.

Does your father or any other family members hunt? Honestly you need someone to show you the ropes a mentor to help you out.

We all started out with alot of questions, but in the woods with someone is where you figure out "what's going on."
