Lubbock county does not have a season for Turkey. Some of the counties around Lubbock do though. Mainly going southeast of Lubbock. There are primarily Rio Grande Turkeys in the area. I'm new at turkey hunting but I was lucky enough to call in a gobbler on my first try on May 4th last year, not sure if that is the best time to be hunting them or not.

They would be Rio's. The best time is anytime you can be in the field!!

Spring season is March 29th to May 11th. I would say your best bet for decent weather and turkeys gobbling would be mid to late April into early May. I know they were gobbling good the first of May this year. I would think that if you got here too early in April that they might not be in full swing on the strutting and a cold snap could also put a damper on things.

My land is about 6 miles east of the Scurry county line.

Spring season is March 29th to May 11th.
I believe the season opens up earlier this year than usual. I heard it was opening on March 15th.I have a hunt planned in south Texas on March 24th through the 27th. It may be different in north Texas though. Haven't seen the new regulations yet, but I do know it opens before the 29th in 08.

That was the quote out of the 2007-2008 Texas Hunting Regulations. Scurry countyis in the North Zone.

Rio Grande Turkey
Spring Season

North Zone (101 counties) March 29 - May 11

* Special Youth Season March 22-23 May 17-18

South Zone (54 counties) March 15 - April 27

* Special Youth Season March 8-9 May 3-4

I am in the North County list (I live in Abilene which is Taylor County) and I have experienced the best time is the very beginning of the season or the last part of the season. Scurry county is a couple of counties west of Taylor. If I was planning a trip, I would shoot for the first or second weekend of April.
