I use mine for all sorts of stuff, Its hard at first getting past the vibrations but you'll get used to it. I blow mine while I'm sitting around the house watchin tv.. and I listen to hens to immitate, I now use mine howling for coyotes as well.

RE: Diaphram Call

My mouth call always gag me, so I cannot use them, which really stinks
I was going to say, TRIM off about 1/8" all the way around the Call. I am like you a Gager and I still Gag after 25+ years using one. However I have never Killed a Bird with anything but a Mouth Call.

Both of you guys have all the info you need to use a Mouth Call right here. I read the other post and its great advice.

One thing I would add is it doesen't take much BLOWING at all it come's from the GUT. I am Old, Fat, Out of Shape and I could call all day.

Get proficient with soft purrs and yelps with a diaphram call first. You can use the friction calls while the turkeys aren't close in.
Great advice..In my opinion the fact it leaves your hands free is a mouthcalls greatest asset, especially if your a bow hunter.I like the sound of a friction call at longer distances but use a mouthcall to seal the deal!!;) Understand there is no such thing as a magic call that never fails no matter how well you sound.Calling position, using the right language, and other factors come into play and are far more important than what type of call you use.Yes alot of gobblers have been made wary by lousy callers and its a joke to me when i see someone who has 10 mouthcalls and 8 friction calls and cant hardly work a one of them!My advice is get a call your comfortable and confident with and work on your woodsmanship...Bob..
