Scope?
How many of you use a scoped shotgun when hunting for turkey?
|
RE: Scope?
I do and have for the last 4 to 5 years - forced to go to it as I am old and my eyesight will not let me use the Tru Glo open sites I once had.
Bought a Nikon Monarch Turkey Pro and put it on my 11-87 SP - using the 21 inch cantelevered barrel. I also went from 3.5 inch back to a Std 3 inch. JW |
RE: Scope?
I have been using a scope for many years myself, mostly because my gunnever shot to the point of aim, it always shot high left!!
The Leupold 1X4 Shotgun scope works very well, it has stood the recoil test of many 3" turkey loads over all these years without a single hic-up.;) |
RE: Scope?
I've used one for the past two seasons here - spring and fall. It works well for me. The scope I purchased is made by Tru-Glo
|
RE: Scope?
I started with a scope 20 years ago then about 6 years ago I bought my first Red Dot...Love them for turkey hunting!!!...I've had a Millet Red Dot on my Browning for 4 years now and it is one sweet scope.
|
RE: Scope?
I've been using a leupold 1x4 on my gun for the last 7 years now and will never go back to an un-scoped gun again. They do add a touchof extra weight to the gun,but with the clarity and the dead on point of aim,it's worth it by far to me.

RE: Scope?
Yeah, JW! is right, he is old as dirt and definitely can't see. He tried to knock a 2X6 board off my shelterwith his head when he was here to turkey hunt with me.
But I will admit, he recommended the same scope to me and I used it last year, certainly made a good difference for me. dog1 ORIGINAL: JW! RE: Scope?
And I still luv ya dog even though ya are short! :)
and folks -I am trainable - I only did it once! here is my gun. ![]() Do note the buck Creek neoprene monte carlo cheek piece. it was needed to make sure that once I broguth the gun tp cheek - I was spot on eye level with the scope. and it is very comfortable to shoot. Now I dropped the first bird at 21 yards standing and took the secondas the brid was on adead run at 18 yds as it ran past me. JW |
RE: Scope?
hey jw howd you get that picture on the side under your name??? i cant get 1???
|
RE: Scope?
I bought a Truglo red dot scope and tried as hard as I could to like it but it just sits too high up for my liking. I'll have to get a cheek piece to be able to get the proper cheek weld, and I don't want to do that. I'm going to use something else this spring.

RE: Scope?
purple - it is your profile set-up here and I used a smiley. Actually that smiley is supposed to side step the shot each time but with the upgrade here I could not load it so just ook the picture.
In your profile go to Avatar - it allows you to paste in your own photo as along as it is 2 megs or less(?). Simp - that is the reason for the buckCreek neoprene cheek pad you see on my gun. You can build it up to suit with all the adjustment pads that come with the kit. I think it was about 30 bucks. JW |
RE: Scope?
but how do you get pics from your pics that youve taken with a dig camera??

1. You need a Web site that will host your photos - you need to upload them there. If you have a web site already or pay for an Internet provider such as I do -check and see if they will allow you to host photos - mine does 2. OR try Photobucket as it is free (http://photobucket.com/?link=topmenu) 3. upload your photo 4. then to post your photos you can do it one of two ways. a. first open your uploaded photo b. put your mouse cursor over your photo and right click c. the photo menu will open and go to Properties tab located ususally at the bottom of the menu d. click properties and copy the URL - aka Address - it willstart with this ->http//...........photo.jgp e. ifthe photo is too large you will need to be resized as most forums such as this will not allow any picture larger than 2 meg and it should be in.jpeg format f. in your post here the icon to add an image is the little yellow box located on the bottom right of the menu bar and above where you ahve written text to post a rpely here g. click that and you get script prompt and you can add/ paste your address/URL thereOR h. use this code looks like this (NOTE: without the quotes ' ' - otherwise I would be pasting a picturehere) '[Example: 'which without quotes you get a picture and the pciture I posted is below. sounds harder than it really is - case in point - I am an ole guy :) JW ![]() JW |
RE: Scope?
i just use my benelli nova with tru glo sights.does the job very well
|
RE: Scope?
I've been using a Simmons 1 to 4.5 variable on my Mossberg 835 since I started a few years back and couldn't see my turkey targets clearly while sighting-in the first time. I've been happy with it so far, but have tentative plans to stick an Aimpoint red-dot on when the credit cards bills get caught up. ;)

RE: Scope?
I have been debating about scoping my Benelli Super Nova. One of the main points, is that I will have to ship it to Benelli to have it drilled for sights. This will take about 6-8 weeks, so I am told.

RE: Scope?
Been thinking about putting a red dot(millett of course) on my turkey killing machine
|
RE: Scope?
I put a B-Square on my Remington 870 Wingmaster. I use a BSA 40mm red-dot sight( I use it for turkey, deer, and once pheasant). I really love it, after taht turkey season I put them on 2 .22 (great for coon hunting), and my front loader.

RE: Scope?
I put a scope on my turkey gun 11 years ago. I haven't missed since. It can be a hinderance if you take shots at birds that are running or flying, but most good turkey hunters don't do this. I love the magnification, too. I don't really need to carry binoculars anymore. Not everybody needs a scope, but I'll never hunt without one.
