Well for one it would be a gun that fits you. I myself just love my Mossberg 500 with a factory xx-ful turkey choke. It is reasonably priced and a great shooting gun. Its a 12ga. But there are other guns out there and believe me others will give you their 2 cents on why their gun is the best. I can only say get what fits you and what your comfortable with. Pattern your gun.

The Remingtom 870 is a GREAT turkey gun, or the Benelli M2 if you have the cash.........:)

The 870 will stand anything you can throw at it. I had one for 5 years until I traded it for a Benelli M2 and it never gave me any problems. I would get another one just for a turkey gun if I ever wanted to get a gun especially for turkey hunting.

Good Luck!!!!

In my opinon is you cant beat a 870. A couple of months ago i went and bought me another one. This one is the thumbhole supermag special purpose.

Most people want the name brand guns because they see the pros use them. I bought a New England Pump Pardner for $237 and it is a wicked shotgun. It has a 22 inch barrel with a .640 hastings choke. I shoot winchester #6 turkey loads and the gun is a killer at 60 yards. Gun is camo and certainly worth the money.

I agree with Ky Turkey Hunter...it is hard to beat the Remington 870. I have the 870 SPS-T with thumbhole and it is probably the most comfortable gun I have ever held. They make it in an automatic as well, however, I wanted a pump instead of an automatic for turkey hunting. Absolutely awesome, awesome turkey hunting gun and it comes with bright fiber-optic adjustable open sights. I had the Mossburg 835 UltiMag and I didn't like it near as much as I do this 870.

Not really completely on the subject. But this last spring my hunting partner decided he needed a new shotgun. So he goes out and buys a brand new mossberg turkey edition. Camo and all. I grab my trusty rem. 1100.So we go out I set us up. Call 2 birds in, one for me one for him. Watch em tear our decoy to hell. I count to three and BOOM. my turkey falls and flops. Then i hear BOOM BOOM. he empties his gun and the turkey saunters off.My point is Getwhat works for you. opinions are great place to start butno matter what gun you get the thing is to know your gun. pattern it and know your capabilities with it. a bigger gun or bigger shell does not guarantee akill.

I couldn't agree more. The combination between shells and choke tubes will be the determining factor on a "good turkey gun". Any gun can be with the right combination.

RE: what would be a great turkey gun?

i know of more turkeys killed with a single shot or pump action where youd only get one shot, than i know of with autoloaders, what im sayin is you have to be confident enough in your gun to KNOW you will kill the turkey with your first shot. i just havent had the opportunity yet.:Dbut when it comes. hes goin down. so just get the best gun for your budget, get some good loads, a good full to super full choke and blast away.
