This is great....okay, this is a lttle bit off the subject but still relatively the same thing...if an owl can take out a full grown turkey then they could definitely get a small dog like my grandparent's little polmeranian--there's an owl that has been hanging in my grandparent's neighborhood and now my grandpa won't even let the dog go outside he's so scared she'll be picked up and carried off. But is this even feasible with him standing out there with her? Will an owl even try if there's a human standing less than fifty feet away? I thought "maybe if it's REALLY hungry..." but if it started too swoop down my gran'pa would start going crazy, so it doesn't seem possible....anybody seen anything like that?

I don't think a owl will try a small dog... I seen a small dag snap a arrow shaft in falk with one bite... Prob do the same to the owls legs... I think the main food source for owls will be mice... The woods are full of them... No shortage threre

Not to steal the thread, but whats this talk of shooting bald eagles? That would be extremely illegal in Ontario, and I would think anywhere in Canada, aren't they your national bird or something? I didn't see any smiley faces behind the posts, can you southern boys actually shoot birds of prey?

bobcats are really really bad on turkeys round here. snatch em off the branch at night while on roost......easy pickings that way, thankfully (turkey side of me) we dont have that many bobcats

predator hunter side of me wishes there were more bobcats so i guess i cant win, although i do like turkey hunting more than anything else bar nothing.

thats what i was thinking....when i first started working where i do i was told if i find a dead bald eagle, just to look the other way because of all of the paperwork involved, i freaked....but he isnt there anymore....i never did, i have found 2, one just a couple of months ago...we have strict rules when we find them.we are to touch nothing and call our officers out so they can collect it and send it off for an autopsy....i'm sorry,cows, birds, or bugs, you dont shoot an eagle....how unamerican is that ? to shoot an eagle.i'm pissed just hearing it.

First off let me point out this happened in British Columbia Canada...
And yeah it is exteremely illegal for anyone to do this but their is special circumstances where permission can be granted ..
The B.C. Regulations, clealy state.ITS UNLAWFUL to HUNT,SHOOT ,CAPTURE, HAWKS OWLS FALCONS EAGLES ...EXCEPT UNDER PERMIT......
But you goota remember,B.C. never was underpopualted with Bald Eagles
not when compared to the rest of North America...
About the only place that had moreis Alaska....
If there is one single predation problem most ranchers face in British Columbia its not wolves coyotes bears its EAGLES......
Its alot of red tape and can take several years to complete, but it can be done........
First off let me point out just what eagles do......
EAGLES HOVER In TREES, DIRECTLY ABOVE THE COW AND AS SOON AS THE CALF HAS POPPED OUT, THESE EAGLES ARE ON THEM PECKING AT THEIR EYEBALLS AND GRABBLING AND THEIR NOSES LIPS AND TONGUES.......
ISAW IT FIRST HAND AS i WAS HELPING HIM DURING CALVING SEASON.....
We came across this one calf missing half ahalf its nose, so parts of its lips and bits of tongue..and both eyeballs were gone,and the eagle just flew up into a branch and waited for usto carry on.....
Seriously ranchers in British Columbia are begining to have problems with eagles peying on newborn calves....I'm mean these calves are being attacked before the cow can even chew off the cord.....
ARancher can legally be allowed to shoot Bald Eagles so long as
as the matter is brought forth to the proper authoprities, evidence is than gathered and a decision is made as to weather or not permission be granted.
Upon shooting, reports must be made and inspections to be done.
If a Rancher fails to do any of these things, he would be in a heap load of trouble......
