Default Do turkeys mind wet fields?

Im hunting in a spot that got a little more rainfall than normal and in the fields theres some standing water in spots. The rest of the field is basically either muddy or hardly wet. Will the turkeys still walk in this field if they have to? So far Ive only seen a dropping and 1 turkey track in it. Im kinda getting discouraged. You think this field will ruin my season or dont you think it will make much difference? Ive talked to some people who say turkeys hate it, while i just talked to a guy who said hes seen turkeys walking through half a foot of water and mudd.

I have not ever noticed it bothering them. If it is raining, hunting the field will be the place to be. They hate being in the woods when it is raining, at least in my area.

Turkey are very adaptable I hunt in both the dry hills of south western Ny (near Pa Ny border and up near Niagara Falls which tends to be wet in spring both birds are so different. In the south they tend to stay in the hardwoods and won't cross water or thick underbrush when called, In the north birds will come thru water and thickets youd swear they were part duck.If theres always been birds there, chances are they will go to the field whether wet or dry. At any rate good luck and have a great season.

Well usually I have pretty good results hunting this spot, shot a tom two years ago in it actually, but usually see tracks in it. So far there isnt any. Thats what worries me. Across the road I see turkeys every day but Im wondering if theyll cross the road being that the fields theyd have to cross are wet.

It may not be the water in the field causing lack of sign. It may be a lack of food. If there is something there for them to eat they will be there, water or no water. Find the food and you will find sign.

What state? I hunted birds in Michigan in the swamps. They walk right thru them. I have watched birds here in Pa walk up a creek. Only about an inch or 2 of water but they were in it.

I believe: if you call them, they will come.

I agree they don't like to be in the woods in the rain. I think they will opt to keep dry feet if given the choice. If all the food and security is in a wet area then they will be there. If there is a nearby area that is dry I feel it will attract them as long as there is food. When I set up I never expect them to cross water. If I know it is there I will set up on their side of the creek.
