Team 1 stop by!
Let's hear from team 1 members, where are you going to be hunting this year? How do you feel about your chances of success? Have you been chasing "Old Tom" for a few years or are you new at the game? What part of the country do you hunt and which of the 4 major turkey do you pursue?
To answer my own questions, I will be hunting Minnesota, Michigan, and Texas this year. I feel very good about my chances of success, and I have been hunting "Old Tom" for about 10 years. Success rate 8-10 birds over the ten years. Some years more than one bird, some years none. I hunt and have taken several Easterns and Merrians. This year will be going to Texas and hope to take a nice Rio. |
RE: Team 1 stop by!
What's up bluegunner, I'm ready to roll down here in Alabama. I posted a check in post for team 1 before I saw your post so we'll make this one the main one.
I'm 22 andI've been chasin' toms around for about 5 years now. I don't know if you saw my pictures but I'm the bored redneck that made the homemade basketball struttin decoy, :Dthat's how addicted I am to killin turkeys. My season opens this Thursday and I will be there waiting for 'em to sound off from a ridge top. If I don't hear any, I know where to go to wait on 'em. Season goes from March 15-April 30 and I'll be able to hunt about 80% of the days. I'm finishing up my decoy and I'll post some pictures on here this evening, maybe he'll bring in an old hard headed field tom. When does your season open bluegunner? We need to think of a team name for us too. Good luck and let's go get 'em. |
RE: Team 1 stop by!
RIStrutStopper checkin in! Looks like we have some dedicated turkey chasers on our team! SouthernStrut, I saw that basketball decoy post of yours, I bet that thing's gonna work. Doesn't look too portable, but I'm sure Ol' Tom doesn't care as long as you get it to where its gonna count! I think I've got a pretty good chance to score on an eastern this year, I'll be hunting in RI and CT. The RI season doesn't open until the end of April and CT something like May 5th, so by the time I hit the woods I'm sure our team will have a bunch of birds checked in. If I score early with my shotgun, I may just tote my blind along and give it a shot with my bow this year. I've only got a few years chasing turkeys under my belt, but I'm addicted! I've got a few nice longbeards to help my team the past couple of years so lets hope I can keep it going! Good Luck Everyone!

RE: Team 1 stop by!
Hey guys, pabirdhunter here. I'll be hunting VA which starts on 4/14 and PA which comes in on 4/28. I've been hunting turkeys for ten years or so now I guess with a pretty good success rate. This is the first year for VA so we'll see how that works out but I feel confident about PA. I'm a die hard so I'll do what I can for the team.

RE: Team 1 stop by!
The Bullshooter is checking in. Glad to be here and I am looking forward to another great season. I killed my first turkey in 1976 and have killed a few since then (126) but who is counting. LOL. I will only be hunting Mo. Pa. and Ny this year.

RE: Team 1 stop by!
Checking in! I'll be hunting GA, WY, SD, MO, and IL this year. I did have an Oklahoma trip scheduled but had to cancel it. I've been turkey hunting since 1995 and have around 30 turkeys to my name.
|
RE: Team 1 stop by!
Checking in as well. I will be hunting Otsego County, NY, and Bradford County, PA this year. I have been hunting turkeys for 15 years or so at this point and have killed quite a few and called in even more for other people. I will primarily be hunting with the bow out of a blind with my buddy APAJaws but will also be carrying the 870 Super Mag for a few hunts too this year. I have never killed a bird with a bow and hope this year is my first. Last year was the first year I have gone without a bird for quite a while, but hopefully luck will change for this season.
Here are a few pics, firstwas taken a few weeks ago on my 100 acres in PA, second is the bird I called in for my father last year, and the last is my bird from year before last. There are a few gobblers here........lol. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Team 1 stop by!
Hey Team 1...Zubba checking in.
This is my nineth year chasing turkeys. I have taken 8 birds in 8 years and called in moreforothers.(2 some year and none a couple). I don't want to jinx myself, but I have taken 4 nice toms the past 4 years (most of my skunks came early in my turkey hunting career). This year I will be hunting Wisconsin and Iowa. This is my first year hunting two states and my wife is steaming because of it..holla!!! Anyways, I will be hunting April 25-39 in Iowa...May 2-6 in Wisconsin...and May 2-20 in Iowa. |
RE: Team 1 stop by!
It's ashoe in guys. My team won last year, so I expect nothing less this go around;). I primarily hunt on my land in LA. I also hunt in Tenn. I normally kill two or three birds a season, but with turkey hunting, anything can happen. I've got two longbeards gobbling their heads off now on my land. I filmed them this past weekend. My season opens up March 24th. I hope they are still hot come the 24th. The wait is driving me crazy, especially with these two so hot. I just hope they don't breed too early and leave. One of them was gobbling 7 to 8 times in a row. He gobbled well over a hundred times and he was still gobbling when I left. I almost got tired of him gobbling so much. I've been turkey hunting for a while but became seriously addicted to it abouteightyears ago. Now I am more pumped up about turkey hunting than deer and duck hunting. Good luck to the rest of the team.

RE: Team 1 stop by!
Guys, I don't know what you think, but I think we have one strong team!!!! Let's go get them guys!!!!
|
RE: Team 1 stop by!
I agree, we do haveone strong team. There's no reason why we shouldn't win. I'm going out to some national forest land Thursday morning with a couple of buddies to call for 'em. They don't really hunt much so I'm takin my gun just in case, I might score one, who knows. Thursday afternoon after class I'm going to my land to try and bust up a flock I saw in the fields last Friday. I spooked 'em off and 5 minutes later 4 toms walked back out in the same field, maybe they'll be good to me Thursday. Hunt hard fellas and like superstrutter said, it can be a shoe-in for us.

RE: Team 1 stop by!
Sounds like our team will be covering alot of ground. I will be hunting here in Arkansas starting April 14 but before that I will be going to Kansas to hunt the opener of gun season on April 11, I amalso going to take my bow for the 1st time.If I can I am going to try and hunt Missouri and Kentuckyalso. I have seriously hunting turkeys for about 15 years and have taken probably 20 or so during that time. The areas I hunt have mainly easterns but might get a chance at some rio's in Kansas. Looks like I have been put on team with a great bunch of hunters and I wish everyone the best of luck.

ORIGINAL: gobblegetterNY anybody here hunt tennessee?? i'll be headdin down there in 2 weeks for opening weekend just wonderin how the birds are doin I go to Tenn. for a week or two every year. I'll be there opening weekend and for a few days that week. One of the guys I talked to said there is some gobbling going on. I hunt close to Memphis and in Hardeman County. I do most of my hunting home on my land in LA. They are gobbling their heads off on my place in LA. right now. It opens the 24th here and the 31st in Tenn. Where you hunting in Tenn.? |

It's team #1 for a reason. I hunt in Ky. behind my house. Been hunting a few years, I'll be good for two big tom's opening weekend, I have three days off work, think I'll try taking my second one with my bow this year.;)

RE: Team 1 stop by!
Got one forthe home teamthis afternoon! Not a monster by any means, but he's a pretty good 2 year old bird, especially for opening day in an afternoonrain storm. 9 1/4 inch beard, 7/8 inch spurs, 17 lb 4 oz......he won't be our contest winner that's for sure. Since it was raining, I busted up a flock in a food plot and set up and waited on 'em to come back out. I knew if it kept raining they would come, and they didn't disappoint me. Ol' tom strutted right down the road across the food plot to the hens that were 15 yards in front of me. Fun hunt! I'm goin for number 2 tomorrow deep in the backwoods, maybe he'll gobble for me in the morning. Good luck to the rest of the team!

RE: Team 1 stop by!
I wanna know where my score went for the bird I killed opening day. I posted it Thursday night but somehow it got deleted or something. We need to find out b/c that had us in first place so far.
|
RE: Team 1 stop by!
Ya know there is a reason we are team#1. Nuff said, lets just do it! Been hunting turks 14 yra and taken a few good ones and called in a good many for clients. Oh yeah, I'm 47 yrs young. I wil;l be headed to Florida Apr 1st with Pat for a turk hunt there and I hope to get some time in Mo before the season ends. Most of my time will be with clients in Nebraska this year, so I will get in a hunt or two there as well. Gonna give it a try with the bow this yr.
Team suggestions: Boss Tom Thumpers Tom Trophy Takers Strut Stoppers Feather Dusters Beard Dusters Dust Bowl Clan Widow Makers |
RE: Team 1 stop by!
Tominators is a good name. I'm still partial to Wattle Whackers tho, lol. Deerdust, that Strut Stoppers name isn't too bad either, lol. I'm getting psyched. Did my first 3D shoot of the year today in the snow, saw a bunch of turkey tracks and scratchings in the snow right on the course at my club. I may just try hunting at the club once or twice this year.
