RE: Team 2 !!! "THUNDERSTRUT"

I'm done, but the last weekend that I was in KS., where my friend shot his first two turkeys just a couple weeks ago,(see pic. above)there was a tornado warning in our area on the last night that we were back there. Well, my buddy that lives back there found dead turkeys in the wake of the tornado. Said that one of the roost trees took a direct hit by the tornado, and that the dead turkeys that they found had zero feathers on them. Also, he talked to another farmer there that said that he had seen a couple turkeys that must have been darn near killed too, because they didn't hardly have any feathers left on them. I'm guessing they will be coyote/bobcat bait since they won't be able to fly up to roost for sometime.
Mother nature is cruel sometimes. My buddyis going to Email some pics. to me of some of the distruction, so onceI get them, I'll post them.

I'm still trying, its the start of a long weekend up here and I'm not stupid enough to brave the traffic tonight so before 1st light I have to drive 40miles to the lab to drop off all the water samples I collected today, then drive 70miles to the farm I'm hunting. Shotgun saturday, bow sunday, shotgun monday. I really hope the farmer has been around to plow and seed because I can't leave the 100 acres I'm on and up to now all the birds have been on the neighbours plowed land.
This season has been tougher than any of the three others I have hunted, but I'm still confident that I'll get a score for the team, but I won't promise a tom because right about now I'll pull the trigger on any bearded bird.

Wish me luck, I'll update ya'll monday or tues night.

Well, unless a miracle occurs, my season is done. No birds for me. Today is the last day of our season, and as of 2:00 PM, I will be performing other duties. Sorry I let you guys down. :(

I do not have anymore tags to fill. I was wondering about all you hunters living in those areas with bad weather trying to turkey hunt.

Now I'm really worried, no bird this weekend and I only have 1 shotgun and 1 bow day left in the season.
I did have a bead on one, saw one dusting itself before it saw me, I got behind a bush and waited till it crested the hill - no beard, it was a hen. I'm still hearing gobbling but always from the next concession over where the fields are turned and seeded, the aren't visiting to corn stubble fields on the farm I hunt. I guess I should have scouted some private land, but before the season started I didn't think it nessesary, I've hunted 3 successful seasons on this land and after easily tagging out with 2 nice toms last year I thought that I had these dang birds figured out.

On a side note I found out why I wounded one opening weekend, its because I'm retarded. I decided that the modified choke always worked fine and I had no luck with the full so I'd switch back, when I pulled the tube and checked the markings I was horrified to see that I had actually installed the improved cylander by accident. Not only did my lack of attention wound a beautifull bird, but now I may get skunked when I could have had a tom 1st day, serves me right for being careless with my equipment.

I'll be working out of town for the rest of the week, but I'll be back out on the farm come saturday.

RE: Team 2 !!! "THUNDERSTRUT"

I'm back, birdless but all is not lost. The site I'm working on this week is only 1/2hr from the farm I hunt so I can get out a few 1-2hr hunts in at least. I have to be on site for 8 latest (suns up at 5:45), and I'll be offsite by 5, but we can only hunt till 7pm. Evenings are my best chance because the birds don't roost on the property so it takes them till mid morning to reach the area. At the very least I'll squeeze in 3 1.5hr evening hunts before the season closes.
Once again wish me luck, next time I check in my season will be closed.
