Flite Control Wads and Ported Chokes
I was doing some patterning today (which went over like a lead balloon) and had a thought in between icing my shoulder and popping aspring:
If the Flite Control wad is designed to stay with the shot charge longer, to make patterns more dense, and ported choke tubes are designed to strip or slow wadding in order to prevent the wad from interfering with a shot column... then would shooting a flite control wad through a ported tube be a complete waste of time and money? Wouldn't the two interfer with each other?

I think the wad is so heavy it is not stripped by the ported chokes. I do think the ported chokes shoot far better with other loads so it may not be a total waste of money if you ever shoot other shells. I shot two of the federal rounds last week at the patterning board and even with a ported choke the wad hit the target both times at 40 yards.

Federal says not to use Federal flight control wads with ported chokes. However, I was out patterning last weekend and I found that the federal 3.5" #5 shot was the best shooting shell out of my Remington 870 SPS-T with a ported Primos Jelly Head. I shot Federal, Winchester Supreme 3.5" #5 shot, and Hevi-Shot Hevi 13 #5 shot. The worst was the Hevi-13's which surprised me. Everyone raves about them, but they just didn't perform for me at all! With the federals, I feel confident out to 50 yards for sure. I didn't try any 60 yard shots because my arm was about to fall off after shooting 3 different brands of 3.5" ammo several times. Hopefully I will get to that this comming weeked. The Winchesters were a close second, but the federals seemed much more tighter of a pattern...

I use a ported choke on my Feds which does just fine. and I agree with r33h, about the Hevi 13s. I still want to try their dead coyote, but not for $30 per 10 rounds of 12 gauge. but they can keep their turkey loads.
