Default nitro ammo and moss 835 ?

i have a mossberg 835 and have shot win xtend, fed heavy weight, heavy 13, rem heavyshot, fed lead, win lead, rem lead most of them have been 4's, 5's, and 6's. I shot them through the factory full, factory xtrafull and a primos jellyhead. win xtend 6's 127 pellets in 10 inch circle and was a very even pattern, hevi13 had 168 in 10 inch circle but had open spaces in the pattern. both of these are my best pattern and came from the factory xtafull choke at 40 yards. both of thes will kill a turkey at 40 yards but only putting 7(win) and 13(hevi13) in the brain and spine. I hunt alot of fields and would like something tighter and more even pattern. I have heard a lot of good things about the nitro 4x5x7 heavy load and was wondering how others mossberg did with the nitro and what kind of choke THANKS

I can assure you that nitros will out perform everything you listed. Make sure you get the 2.25oz loads. I got the straight 7's, it is unbelievable how many pellets it will put in a 10" circle at 40 yards. The best choke I have found for the 835 for the nitros and all other loads is the Pure Gold .670 which has a money back gaurentee so if you don't like it you can send it back for a refund. Good luck with that combo it is a true killer.

thanks for the replies. There is a hunting store on my way to the camp and they sell the 3.5'' 2.25 4x5x7 hevi for 67.00 a box of ten wich is cheaper than buying them off the computer by the time you add tax and shipping. I'm going to give them a try this weekend and I will let yall know how they do I will be very excited if I can get a pattern even close to the one in the picture wvOHIOfan has. Thanks again

I have an 835 and have been having some trouble getting it to shoot like I want it to as well.

I have both the Pure Gold .670, and just bought a Jelly Head .690 last week for it.

Best success I have had was with the .690 and Win Elite Extended Range #6's, which put 22 pellets in the head and spine at 30 yards. The gun should really be capable of more than this.

I am reluctant to shoot 2 1/4oz loads out of it, because I only have a 20" barrel, and my velocity is much lower than the listed 1150fps. By the time by #6s get to 40 yards, I am wondering if I will have enough energy to kill a bird cleanly.

Oh and one other thing about those Pure Gold tubes....that money back guarentee is only good for 30 days from date of purchase... after that, you may well be stuck eating $90 for a tube that won't pattern anything worth a damn like I am.

Holy moses where did you pay $90 for a Pure Gold. They are only about $60 here. The problem you have is the super short barrel, I have noticed thatthe Mossbergswith a barrel shorter than 24" suffers with a more open pattern, I don't think the choke is your problem.

My best friend has an 835 as well. He also has a 20" barrel.

At 20 yards, his entire pattern is the size of a tea cup plate. At 30, its about as large as a dinner plate, and at 40 its still 100% inside a 30" circle. Shoots like a rifle. Only issue is that his choke tube was made by a guy who doesn't make them any more. Otherwise...I'd already have one. I don't think the issue is the barrel at all. With choke tubes, it doesn't matter anyway. The velocity will be different, but at high velocities, you get more wind resistance, and in theory, your choke will be more open than with a shorter barrel. Again.... its all just theory. Point in hand here is my gun is not up to snuff.

The picture below shows my40 yard patternwith the Mossberg 835 (24 inch barrel) shooting Nitro 4X5X7s, 3.5", 2.25 oz (load #H51013) with a Star Dot .676 choke

246 hits inside the 10" circle (264 on another target). I counted 6 hits on the 10" line which are not circled in case you are counting

I just shot the nitro 4x5x7 hevi loads and they are unreal. At 40 yards there are 237 pellets in the 10 inch circle with no open places in the pattern. these are the best shells I have ever shot and they are worth every penny. The main difference between these and factory ammo is the center shot density is so much better the only stray pellets are outside the 10 inch circle the inside of the circle is completly coverd. I AM shooting a mossberg 835 with 24 inch barrel and a jellyhead choke. I wish Iwould have tried the nitro ammo first instead of buying almost every factory load known to man, I spent 67 dollars for ten shells but I want have to experiment with any other load choke combo again.
